All the SMS's I receive are in duplicate; one has the regular envelope icon while the other has an icon that looks like a piece of paper with the right edge bent (dog-eared) and a dot in the middle of it. Any ideas?

Hi,

the SMS with the Envelope is the one stored in the phone,

the SMS with the other icon is the one stored in the SIM

This is very strange... it usually depends from the sim itself where to store the messages... let me explain. Inside the sime there is a software parameter that say to the sim how many sms can be stored in the internal sim memory. When the sim memory is full, on a P800/900 a message appear but the new arrived messages are now stored on the phone itself.

but there are exeptions. Normally "by default" p800/900 should receive the sms into the phone, non in the SIM, but with some providers the SMS are forced to the sim instead to the phone. I do not know why,

funny stuff: when you receive a SMS into the sim by default it is a tru sms, not a delivery report SMS. delivery reports sms are always stored into the phone memory, why? I don't know...

I've never been affected by double messages, but since I've dealed with always receiving nice sms onto the sim (I hate it), I didn't solve the problem since I've changed from TIM to Vodafone subscriber...

Changing the phone p800/p900 won't help you, upgrading the phone won't help you (at least with my problem)....

But:

Did you have this behaviour since day one of your P800/p900?
did you try other sim from other providers in your phone? What happened?

What country are you? What is your provider?

anyway you won't receive double sms forever. Once the sim is full only the phone will receive it..

I'm sorry I can't able to help you, but I wanted you share my past experience with a similar problem

I hope it helps

A bit belated, but maybe still relavent.

I had same problem with getting messages sent to SIM and Pone, in other words coming thru twice.

Nither my service provider or Sony Ericsson could help, so decided to do a master reset (Ok, its a pain in losing some data like ringtones but not a real problem).

Control panel/other/master reset.

This actual cured the problem, so it must have just been a glitch in the software.

Cheers,
Andy.
