Tried that at some point, they were ok but allthough i put 128x160 as a resolution, it came on the phone with a half mm thin white line on every side on the vertically as a frame and i don't like it!

try previewing them in TCP first.
also... even though the screen is 128*160 fullscreen... your phone has a softkeys bar of 128*19 and a statusbar of 128*14 which are alwasy visible... and it will
resize your image as necessary to fit in between the space of 128*127... thus leaving you with a 'frame like appearance' on the parts where it's resized version is smaller than your actual screen.
Try resizing to 128*127 (wallpaper size) and you should not have any problems
[edit] forgot to say: if you're unsure about how much you will use any image editor, try playing around with MS paint first before spending the big bucks (or run a trial version of image editing sw frst to compare them) as they are all mighty expensive
especially photoshop (even though it's the creme de la creme
)
MS paint will serve you for simple things like resizing and cropping and is standard included on any windows computer
