I think that's because they have a diferent strategy for Games. They want to push PlayStation everywhere. They will launch the new Portable PlayStation very soon.
I think SE will first move to an integration with the camera division, You can see this on the new S700, it has a 1.3 Mega Pixel Digital Camera on it and it looks like a camera from the front view.
Take a look in the picture below, you can't tell that it is a Mobile Phone.
My two cents,

He wasnt suggesting they were as powerful SkyDiver, he was merely commenting on what he believes SE's forward strategy will be (i.e., an integration with Sony's camera division, rather than their games division).

I would have to agree that SE will move towards an integration of SE camera phones and Sony's digital camera line. It makes a lot of sense when one looks at the overall picture concerning electronics today, devices are taking on more and more roles in addition to their primary function. One only has to look at mobile phones to see the best example of this. I would imagine that in the near future we shall mobile phones surpassing all but the most advanced digital cameras in terms of quality.
After having caught up with the camera market, mobile phones will no doubt do the same to camcorders.I believe Panasonic are releasing a mobile phone with a camcorder function this summer, not that this hasn't been done before, it's just that this will have a screen that pops out the back so as to look and feel more like a camcorder.
This integration of functions is likely to continue unabated; if it hasn't started already then there are plans to implement a TV service for some Japanese mobile phones, plus there are numerous other examples of mobile phones taking on the roles of various other devices. I can see a point being reached, in the not too distant future, when people will be able to carry one device that will allow them, amongst other things, to watch television; take pictures or video clips; play games with a quality to match any games console; handle PDA functions; be capable of handling any communication based activity one can imagine; act as mini computers; play music; and in general, have the capability of every mobile device currently in use, and all within one small package that will fit neatly inside one's pocket.
The future of computing is integration of services, people want devices that do more and more.

still it would be nice to see some more games with the same amount of effort put in as v-rally

Nope... unless you turn it around and have a look at the FRONT... where there are more obvious tell tale signs...
And...

You really are joking when you say this aren't you... Unless by "...in the not too distant future..." you mean not in our lifetime or that of the next few generations... The issues with having an all encompassing device are numerous...
Why would a company spend so much on one device when they could produce 4 or 5 and make more money through such individual sales... either that or the multi function device you so quote would be so astronomically expensive that only the elite could have one...
In order for a device to match any games console... there would of course have to be such consoles in existence... but then what would be the point, if you can have it in a portable version?
Further, mobile computing technology has to dramatically advance in order to fulfil your needs... ok, to the PSP or whaever Sony will call it appears to have good specs on paper, but it could never be a "mini pc"... you know how our humble desktops are unable to properly emulate the popular games consoles of our day (no matter how similar they say the X box is!)
I could only envisage perhaps 2 companies trying something even similar to this... Sony... though they are perhaps a little greedy and are not really masters of any of the individual components you describe (the VAIO is suffering technologically compared to rivals, mobile phones of themselves suffer various issues, their standalone digital cameras do not impress me at present, pocket tv's are all but unheard of from them, PS2 is outdated with crippled online play... the list is endless and will take much sorting out)... or Microsoft... and really, should Mr Gates be encouraged even more... besides, if Windows is legally too restrictive, then i doubt a convergence device of the kind you quote would be viable... though in fairness, Microsoft know their limitations... they don't make CPU's or GPU's, so they outsource the X-Box components... so such a device as created with them would be fraught with compatibility (and security ! lol) problems... like some may say of Windows!...
The biggest obstacle I see, and one which will not be solved for many a decade is power... batteries just cannot keep up with the features we demand... gaming especially takes it toll... moreso if this is to be 3D with a large enough screen to make it an entertainment device... it will be interesting to see what becomes of the PSP...
So I disagree, or ramble... don't know if you noticed!

As both the SE P900 & T630 phones were featured in the excellent Splinter Cell: pandora tomorrow game on xbox, you would think that at last we would finally get a version of the game to play on our beloved SE phone, but no! even blinking Nokia 3510 owners can download a 2D version of Splinter Cell so why cant us SE P900 owners get a 3D conversion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow I think you need to have a look at sony products again!
I have and think are the best in its class:
P*00 - best phone! - SONY!
Vaio TR2 - SONY! The perfect size with amazing battery life! New ones have a DVD-r!! -
DSCRIP 1 Hanycam - SONY! Smallest hanycam in the world, it fits better in my pocket then my P800! - nothing compares
DSC T1 - SONY! - Slimest still cam(1.5cm), 5mp, huge screen, optical zoom internal!!!! which is mirrored off to save size! - Nothing compares
I think sony does a pretty good job, and even better, all take the same memory cards!!! which makes life so much cheaper.

I take it on board that some have some acceptable products, perhaps more biased of me to suggest the P900 as the better phone... though many, including independent reviewers suggest this as not being the case... and there is still a part of me which envies the XDA2 in spite of the vague differences in function as are put forward (phone/pda - pda/phone variations of argument)
The TR2 seems acceptable... though I daresay that not unlike other Sony products, it is a tad expensive (style over substance too perhaps)... numerous heat issues are relevant for its function whilst, if we consider it from the point of view of a convergence device, it's integrated camera, not unlike that of the P900, is of poor quality... and further more... your quality assessment of it consists of the fact that it is small with an amazing battery... small laptops are two a penny nowadays, with many to be had, and battery life lends itself more to the use of centrino than anything else which is not of itself a Sony innovation...
I have no experience of that particular Handycam, so I should not comment, though I am sure I could safely assume it is a little pricey...
As for the stills cam, well that does appear to be a useful little device, in spite of an inherent failure to remove red-eye... its compactness is creditable for the happy snapper, and a 3 times optice zoom is useful, personally I would prefer a slightly larger camera with a greater zoom... 10 times being more favourable...
Your point about the memory cards is a bit of a joke I hope... or have you missed the duo/duo pro questions which continue to appear... Further, the fact that they use the same media is of no regard to my original point, since if they became one device, there would be no swopping of media... I feel that Sony are probably able to put a duo slot in just about anything they make (and then make a newer slot, with bigger cards, denying those with the other devices the opportunity to use the newer format!
Perhaps you took a little to much notice of my criticism, or maybe my point was ill expressed... Sony make creditable devices in a lot of areas, but they are NOT ALWAYS the best technologically or performance wise in my book... in looking for a new laptop recently, I have seen so many different specs, but in general, it appears as though the smaller companies are able to offer not only better performance but also better prices, and in most cases these days, a good 3-5 year warranty backs it up to...
The problem is, that whilst individually the parts you mention may be competent or ideal for some... and convergence device must have the best to appeal to the masses... I for one would not pay £1700 for the TR2, when it will never be able to cut it with 3D graphics... but for on the road office work its fine...
A final problem (yes i am about to shut up for good this time) which I see with your selection is that they are all highly priced... in the context of a convergence device, as was my previous post... this would put such a gadget well beyond the reach of all but those loaded with cash... so what would be the point... ?
