After about a 4 year love affair with Ericsson (then), SE (now), I have finally made the decision to say goodbye and move on.

My love affair history is as follow: T28, R320, T29, T39, T68m, T300 and finally P800. Of all these lovers, my trusty P800 stayed with me the longest (1 yr and 3 mths to date).

I am a hardcore SE lover and loyalist. Had sparked many debates around my circles of peers about the advantages of SE over Nokia many a times. I guess what really change my mind now is the realisation of how much the handset market has changed and how much it doesn't make sense anymore to stick with SE.

The first thing which prompted me to change is the recent breakdown of my P800. Thankfully, it was restored without even going to the service centre. But in the midst of that few hours when I thought that I had no choice but to get another handset (my p800's warranty has expired), I was really appalled by how much a P900 cost! P900 cos P800 is no longer offered new by the telcos here. I realised I had to fork out somewhere like SGD1300 for a replacement. I am trying v hard not to go into the 2nd hand market but when all routes seem to lead that way, I chanced upon the Xphone...

What really attracted me was the price package. A brand new phone with all that features (besides being non-touchscreen) is within my reach for almost half the price of a new P900! What's more, I can use SD/MMC cards!!! 512mb of memory on a phone is what dreams are made of. MP3s, videos, games... wow! I also kinda miss the one handed operation I enjoyed during the pre-800 days; so touch screen is not really an appealing factor to me anymore.

I do understand that nothing is perfect, the Xphone does come with its string of disadvantages. But its price, form factor, features and expandability have manage to convince me to do the switch. Oh yes, don't forget I was an ex-Pocket PC user as well (kinda miss those good old days...)

What else can I say? I did manage to stay with Polly (nickname I give my P800) for more than a year. In this age of cellphone polygamy, I am proud to say that is already an above average record (in fact, I surprised even myself that I can last this long). But like what I say earlier, the handset market is facing an explosion. We the consumers are benefitting from the waves of competition raging among players like Nokia, SE, Samsung etc... Thus, I feel that it is no longer wise and there is no longer the need to stay with one brand.

Yeah, go ahead and accuse me of going to bed with the enemy. But the bottom line is, by placing 2 smartphones with similiar features side by side, and telling me one costs almost half of the other, the choice is obvious to me. Bye SE...
