I recently got GPRS set up on my account (O2 in Ireland), but they never sent me the settings. When I call the helpdesk they don't have a clue, I was told to dial up my normal WAP connection and I would then be charged using the GPRS rate instead of for the time I spend wapping ... surely this can't be true??
Anyway, I did some searching on this forum and I somehow got a GPRS connection to work, well sort of. I can now access my email, which I could not previously do with a normal dial-up connection. However this connection does not work for WAP. Do you guys have a seperate GPRS connection for WAP and for Email or do you use the same GPRS connection??
Is there anyone out there that uses GPRS on O2 in Ireland, what are the settings?
Finally, I am currently roaming in Germany, do you pay extra for data sent and received through GPRS while roaming or is it at the same rate as when you are on your home network?

You need to call your provider back and ask to speak to someone who knows what they are talking about. Here in New Zealand (and I suspect everywhere else) you do not dial in for GPRS. Thats the whole point of it. You are always on. If you dial in, you are using GSM. They need to give you the connection settings for your Data Accounts especially the APN name which will probably be different for Internet and for WAP. They will also need to provide you with an IP address that you can use to setup your WAP over GPRS. They should have provided you with a document outlining all of these required settings.
To suggest that you dial in and that they will charge you the GPRS rate is nonsense. So, my best advice is call them back and ask to speak to the Internet Support desk and don't stop until you find someone who understands what GPRS stands for.

thats right,
i spent a lot of time with the search for the data acc.
now i had spoke with the help desk from vodafone and this guy was very friendly. and we had make together the seetings.
if you want to send e-mail maybe is better you have a contract for gprs .
the price is not so expensive but you have ( in germany) 1 MB free.
this is a lot of e-mails.

My gprs settings are diff for email vs wap. My email uses a dns and diff gateway than my wap connection. You need to talk to someone in the tech department.
