masseur pointed out in that thread that we buy phones for their functionality and not for their design...

and i must disagree with him... its a combination

http://nokia.com/nokia/0,6771,47705,00.html
when nokia makes such a phone and is priced at a the same price and a bit higher than the 6230, lacking important features like memory and bluetooth...
than its clear that this phone is all about design, and not its features...
that is why the t610 was a hit. there where phones oute there with more advanced features... but the t610 looked good. and it worked...

that is why the k700 doesnt look at all like a japanese phone

if I may quote myself...

I would much rather have the SO505is than the SO505i or the S700 if it comes to looks, but looks are only part of the story since we really buy phones mostly for their functionality (don't we?)

so indeed I think we do agree as I did say that looks are part of the story

Problem with NOkia is not only that they build ugly phones, they also lack in many good features in many of their pricy handsets.
Unlike Sony Ericsson which comes with
* Good looking shape and features with high quality (Where is NOkia?)
* Fresh looking UI with a lot of possibilities, simplyness and of course now swiftlyness (Ok, NOkia have fast menu but then what?).
* Display that is not outdated before the phone has even hit the market
(6230 with its ridiculous display which is one cm smaller than K700's display)
* noncolourless UI (NOkia can't be serious here right)
* Solid feeling of aluminum casing
(What happend here NOkia? You had 8850 which is still the best looking handset ever)

McKinley im a Sony ericsson fan.
i totally agree with u...
i was just tryin to make a point about the balance between design and full featured phone...
i assume sony ericsson could have come out earlier with a 1 megapixel camera phone... but would have to make sacrifices in some other areas...design.but most importantly, Price being one of them!!!

different handsets are targeted at different users. z200 is clearly a design-oriented phone, whereas something like k700 is just as clearly spec-oriented. s700 falls in the middle-ground somewhere, but for a completely different type of user from the other two.

personally, i'm a spec oriented person so long as it's not a brick and doesn't cost me an arm and a leg. however, i think the z600 is also a clever design coupled with good specs.

I read somewhere that the Z600's design is more Sony influenced, which I really liked and got one for myself. IMO S700 is very Japanese influenced, I just love Jap phones.

So this is obvious that the market "asks" and the manufactures "fulfill" but in diff'rent segments.U can see that without being a specialist.
