I've been testing GPWare since its release. I have been consulting with one of the lead engineers behind it. He's already addressed some questions and concerns that I had about the software. Customer support is top notch. They are very much aware of what their competition is doing. I'm impressed with what they have in the pipeline. I think GPWare has a few advantages over Wayfinder and TomTom already. Keep in mind that Wayfinder is only available in Europe. So that negates it from the topic of this post. I believe GPWare will also be available in Europe before Wayfinder can launch their US campaign. A big key feature that sets it apart is the additional PC interface managability. The remote position tracking feature is what we've mostly seen in action flicks until now. I compare that feature to services like On Star (US) and Traffic Master (UK) And for what it lacks (ie traffic info) it's already in the pipeline as well. I plan on posting a full report on a 'dummy' course for this software. Things that I am looking for is signal acquistion time to reload routes, accuracy of street maps, 'pal' position tracking, and managability of designated alternative routes. Anywho, here are some useful illustration that is not available through the site.

Exclusive Features:

gpmobile - Always In Touch. With gpmobile, you're always in touch.

gpspot
With gpspot, you simple click a button on your gpmobile terminal and you can share your exact location, instantly, with any of your gpmobile contacts. They will receive a pop-up on their computer screen, showing your exact location. Your privacy is ensured, since you can turn this feature on and off any time from the mobile terminal or gpdesktop.

gptracker
gptracker allows your friends, family, and colleagues (with permissions set by you) to log into any Internet browser and view your current location, without interrupting you during your drive.

Extra Bonus Features:

gpmobile Features - Speech Interface

Server-based implementation that continuously gets updated to support numerous spelling variations.
A flexible speech interface which allows more than one way to specify a destination:
Street address: Say the street number as a whole number. For example, 1455 may be stated as "fourteen hundred and fifty-five" or "one thousand four hundred and fifty-five".
Intersection: You may specify a street name and cross street.
Street: Just a street name will take you to any point on that street.
Specify an appointment (that you've already downloaded from the desktop interface) as your next destination. For example, "Take me to my first appointment." (Note: The Voice Interface will recognize the words "First” through "Tenth” as well as "Number One” through "Number Ten”. The final word, which can be "appointment”, "date”, "engagement”, "job”, or "meeting”, is optional and not needed.)
Specify "Home" or "Work" as your destination. These addresses will be defined during the sign-up process.

Common GPS Features:
Key 1 (Schematic Directional View):

Key 2 (Schematic Overview):

Key 3 (Language Support):

Test Drive GPWARE

Lucas

I use Wayfinder all the time and I am very happy with it given that it costs UKP270 (www.pdamods.com) compared with as much as UKP1000 for in-car systems. I have only found one or two places where the guidance was not 100% accurate. I cover nearly 20K miles per year and much of that is for business and therefore I have tested Wayfinder all over the country and in London.

@BigFeat

Actually I totally missed that he asked for US! Thanx for telling me

Well GP sounds okey. Personally I dont like the direction shots. I mean the ones with the arrows and stuff. In this case I think that Wayfinder looks a bit better. GPs look like a child drew it. Maybe it is supposed to be trendy ore something, but in that case I am a bit old fasion.

What I am a bit curious about is if someone have tried the software only, without a GPS?

@Jah
Thanks mate Always helpfull! What I wonder is, well lets say I am in London and in a urgent need of a resturant to fill my undying hunger, can Wayfinder find me a nice restuarant? Ore I want to go out and make London fear my dancing techniques, can it find me a cool club?

Cheers
