Most of the network operators will get pre-production models of phones for testing (GPRS, Vodafone Live! or O2 Active functions etc.) prior to their release to the general public.
There are usually always problems with firmware and phone compatibility with networks. GPRS, CSD testing with firewalls, downloads, EFR, Full-Rate, Half-Rate all have to be tested for each phone otherwise buggy phones presents no ends of complaints and cost to rectify.

Actually, there's a bunch of us that hang outside the SE building here... then when we see an SE employee coming out... we mug them... search for any new phones on them... if none... we set them free. If they have a prototype...we knock 'em out... get their phones... then come back the next day to get another one.

@
Aqu4rius: Yes, you are absolutely right!
What I mean and what I want to know is HOW, as stated in the title and in the first post of this thread.
Concerning "What's the deal?":
SE will definitely not just give someone a K700, at least not without something in return. So, what's the deal?
Concerning "Why you?":
SE will definitely not just give anyone a K700. If anyone contact them, asking for a phone, they would certainly refuse/reject to give one away. So, why you?
Some additional questions:
Exactly how did you get your phone? Exactly what did you do to get it?
Did you get your phone for free or did you have to pay for it?

What bico is asking is how do the people who get pre-production phones get them! Why are they the lucky people who get them. How do you get to be one of the lucky ones.
