Is using the T28 datacable and software the only way? Has anybody done this?

I have unlocked my Orange P900 using the cable and s/w linked to a server that generates all the requried codes. It does work. But I had a few problems with my P900 starting when it was not supposed to according to the instructions. I think I may used

Here in the UK, at least, most of the phones are SIM locked meaning that you can only use a SIM car of the network providing the phone. A few years ago I am sure O2 and Vodafone did not SIM lock their phones.

O2 sim does work on my P900, got it from the Vodafone website last week and have my work O2 sim it right now! must be pot luck if the phones locked or not!

I'm 90% sure Vodafone do not lock their phones to their network frequency. Certainly my P9 and before that my P8 did not require unlocking to make them other-network compatible....
