Just wondering... how many Pinoys actually use EDGE (or even GPRS)?

How many of you still surf the NET (not just WAP or forums) on your mobiles? How often? And how many KB do you guys consume each month?

I'm not talking about Esato... I mean, real WEB stuff... checking your POP mail, surfing actual sites with Opera, researching on Google or things like that.

I'm just curious.

im not gonna give u d exact statistics ryt now, but i'm totally sure that only a few percentage knows how to use the technology.

the ironic thing about this issue is that the operators are finding growth in the mass market, and yet they are continuously upgrading their networks for just a little percentage of the total users, if u get what i mean... =)

I still surf the real web on my T|T + T68i. No fun though, but great for killing time. Too slow, good thing there's mobile.esato.com.

Screen too small.

As for EDGE, 3G, I'm not excited at all...

Why not just dirt-cheap phone calls? And per-second charging!!!

That's what I thought!

Seriously, this whole 3G band-wagon is really stupid. I'm a technophile, and even I'm not excited about it. Good grief, all the 3G phones look butt-ugly...yes even the Z1010. They remind me of the 80's when cellular phones were like big clunkers and had a few hours standby time.

All for what? Faster internet that's billed per KB?!?!? No thanks. I'd stick with WiFi for that. And video phones?!?!? Seriously... other than your significant other... why on earth would you pay 4x more to see your boss?!?!?!? Why would you even want that??? If video calls aren't as wide-spread on the net, where it's FREE... why would anyone pay so much more to have it on a small mobile... at least here in the Philippines anyway.

I only know of a handful of people who know how to use MMS, let alone actually use it, even if their phones can handle it.

I know even fewer people who use the video recorder functions in their phones... let alone MMS videos to each other. I've sent a total of 3 video MMS... just for the fun of it... no real practical or social value since video clips are low res.

Photo MMS, yes... not often... but I've used it a number of times..for both business and fun.

Internet? Only when it was free... and now, a few times when I need to do emergency research while on the road... but only on my P800... never bothered hooking up to a laptop.

WAP, more often than before... for Esato, news, traffic, movies...small stuff. I don't use it everyday, but I never hesitate to use it when I need info.

I just wanted to get a general idea of how people here used the mobile internet (GPRS, EDGE)

Unless they can drop prices per KB... and maybe make it P10/MB... I doubt the mobile internet will really take off here. EDGE doesn't do anything more than allow telcos to charge you faster.

i for one, use GPRS almost everyday.. i always check my mail thru wap.yahoo or thru pop3, i also surf wapsites.. look for information, etc. but when i get home, i still use my pc and my dial up internet connection to re-check my e-mail and other stuff. before i spent thousands for wap (like 3 to 4 months before.) but now, i only spend about 300 php for wap/gprs. one thing i like about 3g is streaming video, (yeah it doesn't come cheap) and also GPS. i may embrace 3g technology, because i "may" afford to use its features, otherwise, then... i don't know.

Ya, streaming video is nice... but not at 25c/kb! If they can stream in 512kb/sec, that's about P128/sec , or about P1,000 every 8 sec. Other than 5 people who would actually pay for that on a regular basis... how's that gonna improve our coverage? Or give better inoperability between networks?

this is a very good idea and i believe you'd agree.....

"if they'd put up a plan that would make GPRS/EDGE connectivity/usage unmetered for an agreeable price, then that's NICE..." siempre dapat mas mura sa wi-fi or at least halos parehas lang ng price...

ei!

I use Globe and it's so difficult to use GPRS. I couldn't search for useful sites and all. I also tried CSD and that doesn't cut it either. I'd like to try the EWAP thing too. Can anyone point me to a site that shows how to configure the settings? Also, is 3G supported by T610?

@slomo - r u using globe prepaid or postpaid? just call 211 and have your ewap activated. tell them your using 6600 and have configured your unit. coz ewap is for 6600 and edge capable units. then change your apn to ewap.globe.com.ph. that's it!

most of the phones here in the philippines dont support 3G yet. so, T610 doesn't. but if they classify EDGE as 3G in all its context, then many latest nokia and se phones support 3G. but don't be bothered, 3G (i mean WCDMA , CDMA200) isn't here anyway. mga 5 years pa ang estima ng NTC.
