t610 can reach that section just by moving the joy stick to the left

I'd say probably a quick flick of the jogdial up to get to the messaging icon, and then jogdial in twice

If you use something like Tracker 3 or 4 you can actually create a shortcut to create SMS/MMS etc to anyone in ur phonebook

depends. with flip closed you scroll the jod dial, click to get to messages, click (without scrolling cos it's the first option) to create sms. with tracker installed you can just open the flip and click new sms. Perhaps there are even some apps that can speed things up even a bit more, I don't know. But as far as the phone is concerned, i don't think you can set up a shortcut to a specific function (like write sms) only to an app (like Messages)

I'm going to have to try out this tracker one day
a slightly quicker way without 3rd party software would be to make your middle icon in flip closed mode messages instead of call list. This way you would iŽnly have to press jog dial in twice to start writing a message

I reckon Keymapper could probably be of some use also if u wanted to assign a particular button to messages.

OK I've just tried Tracker 4 & it can assign 'new SMS' to any button.
It seems a bit RAM thirsty though, using about 1MB just to sit in the background!
