Hey guys, I just went through all of my bios ir settings and found the cure to ir ports that wont recognise your t68

they are

HPSIR (or IRda if you dont have that)
Half duplex (not full)
TX/RX = No/Yes

now my phone connects instantly and works every time. enjoy

And exactly where do you find these settings?

In the BIOS set up... hit DELETE key when the computer boots up, or F2.. or some other similar keys.

But these settings are different between motherboards. I don't have that kind of setup on any of my computers.

Basically you try to use slower and more reliable protocols/methods. Use IrDA instead of FIR ...

Maybe try to adjust the IrDA property in network properties, network adapter, advanced properties(Win98). I can't seem to find it in Win2K. Maybe use regedit.

Hi estor

that mean you are saying that if the IR not working could be due to the HARDWARE specification of the motherboard?

or could we do anything on the BIOS?

thank

I don't know.

I have 4 computers here, all having different settings for IR in the BIOS. Some allow changing the speed, the oldest motherboard does not. The wording they use to describe the speed settings are different too. I tend to think it's the IR chip/transceiver that is NOT on the motherboard.

Let me connect my transceiver to the old motherboard and see if it works.

Nope.. .it's motherboard dependent. I hook up the transceiver to the old motherboard. Everything went well. But it would not sync or "connect" with the phone. Also the allowable speed settings were different. Granted it is a Pentium motherboard that's old.

But I could use my USB IrDA unit on this old machine to sync.

hi guys, sorry I should have been more specific.

These BIOS settings only effect onboard ir adapters (ones that plug in directly to the mother board) this is probably the most detailed set up description other motherboards limit your options more and more, but in general it is SIR you want (2.4 K to 115k) not FIR (115K to 16mb due to instability.

They tend to vary names slightly but they will probably call it IRda HPSIR or **SIR (** = two other characters) the other options I think default to those settings if you are unable to alter them.
