My new ipod was in my pocket for half an hour, an when i took it out man it was covered in scratches! All that was in my pocket was a stick of chewing gum, this thing is easily damaged....
Anyone else got an ipod that got scratched up real easy???

I've stuck cling film on the back of mine until I get a case

works a treat, only problem is needs re-cling-film-ing every few days or so.

Is it true that the rechargable internal battery needs replacing every 18 months?

No, not true.
I've had my iPod for 2 years and the battery is still going strong. I think it is the same for any recharegable battery, the life is dependant on how you use it and how you charge it.
For example, the battery in 2 of my old mobile phones (Nokia 3210 and Sony CMD-J70) lost the ability to retain charge in under a year and needed replacing.
Rechargable batteries don't last forever, so this so-called "problem" isn't specific to iPods.

The ipod is engineered to last 18 months. Apparently apple are facing a lawsuit regarding this.

i have a mini ipod and so far it aint got any scratches but thats only cos ive been really careful, the material used to make them is just really scratch prone i suppose
suppose i should get a decent case to protect it
