> Invalid mobile, once again

I know this problem has been discussed many times already. And I tried all the "solutions" posted, but to no avail.
I was the lucky owner of a T39m. Happy because one could buy for this phone an extra large battery giving more than 15 days between charges. Very nice when you go abroad often, as you don't need to bring the charger with you (and all the plugs to accomodate the many power outlets).
But... this Invalid Mobile thing. So I switched for a z600.
And of course, same problem.
Does anyone have the real explanation for this? Is it a phone or SIM or network problem?
Because quite naturally SE says it is a network problem and Proximus (my belgian network provider) says it is SE.
I have to say that it seems to happen when the signal is weak. And as an addition, the phone not always goes to invalid, but also to SOS calls only, or no-call condition (the small handset with a red cross on it).
OK I do understand that in case of weak coverage this is normal. But why the hell is the phone locked and one must shut it down and restart it in these circumstances? Seems to me that the phone should reconnect automatically when the signal comes up again.
Any help thankfully accepted, pleeeeeeease.

It can be either the phone (blacklisted or faulty - permanent or intermittant)
or the network - no/low signal.
Try and goto the networks menu. Under pref nets set your provider to option 1. Does this fix it?

I would cahnge the sim/network.
The T39m/Z600 are not known for those sorts of problems.

However I already tried all your suggestions: switching off GPRS, manual network search, only one preferred network, .... you name it, I tried it. And I have no Data Comm account programmed.
The only things I did not do up to now: flash to the latest firmware, change the sim or get a new the phone.
This is an intermittent problem, and only happening here in Belgium with my own telco. Never had the problem in France, in Canada, in the US, nor even at the Reunion Island (East of South Africa) where the coverage is everything but complete or full strength.
It drives me crazy, as it usually happens when driving the car, so that I (should not) cannot restart the phone without stopping the car.
Once again, I wonder why in such circumstances the phone has to be locked. It should reconnect when the signal is up again, shoudn't it?
What would you think of your car radio switching off when the signal is too weak for 10 sec?
Are there some belgian guys having the same problem? If yes, which telco: Proximus, Base, Mobistar?

Moving in your car sounds like the problem then. Do you have a carkit? Signal can and will drop when moving in a vehicle, it is not 100% guranteed

What seems strange is that if I do a Select network or Search networks, every other time it ends up with the Invalid mobile message. And the signal strength is at maximum. But it never (and I really mean never) happens when switching the z600 on.
Someone know if this was a problem that has been solved in newer firmwares? I still have R2F002.

the phone connects to the base station but the base station does not record it --> explains your "driving" situation
ur phone switches from it's current base station to the next one but it is already overloaded...
hence u'll either get "no incoming calls available" or "invalid mobile"
