> the infamous SMS ID problem
Bookmark topic
this is my explanation of the infamous sms id problem on the T68i and upgraded T68m (both R2B025)
upon receipt of a new sms, the phone will try to "tag" the sms with a name if it sees a match in the phonebook. if this tagging is "disturbed" for some reason, it won't be able to complete the tag hence, you just get a number.
which means, the sms messages in your inbox have been "altered" by the phone due to the tagging. the message itself is not modified but the header was (which is the replacement of the number by the corresponding name).
to prove the point, on known sms messages where a name is displayed, delete the phonebook entry for that contact. go back to sms inbox and you will still see the name, not the number. you will wonder, hey it's not on my contact list! but it was already tagged earlier, before the contact info was removed.
to "disturb" the tagging is quite a challenge, so it does not happen most of the time. i have to ask a friend to waste his sms allocation for me to get an intentional "untagged" sms.
i hope you guys/gals understood what the hell i'm talking about.

Hmmm, it must be the same thing as i posted in this thread
http://esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=5799&forum=2&9
Basically this is what I have eXPerienced:
If I get an SMS with a number I haven't saved, I do that stupid SE way of saving a number, this happens: After I have stored the number in "unsaved numbers" sometimes the number in the sms changes into a name from my contact list. This has happened, hmmmm, three times I think. The result is that I have saved the number from the sms I got, but it now is displayed in the inbox as if it were from someone else....
Why do SE always have to do things the hard way (just to be different from Nokia is my guess, but it's stupid...)

What I noticed is that deleting one or two messages corrects the tagging of the headers. The number thus becomes a name if it is in the phone memory after the mentioned deletion.

the number is also saved, delete contact then open massege and select chat, there you'll find that the number is still there

I dont get this problem with sms, i get this problem with my call list.
When someone who is in my phonebook calls me, the phone does not recognise the name and only displays the number even though the contact is stored in the address book.
As the 'Ask to Save' is on, the phones then asks whether i want to save the number.
This does not happen all the time, but it happens and it's enoying.
The number is stored in the phone book.
Only just had the phone for a week.
Help Please.....
