After much deliberation I have just ordered my P900 from Vodafone, But the very best bit is I got it for very close to 50% less than the low price of £99 that Orange are offering them at on new contracts!

Just goes to prove what you can get if your are extremely polite, but prepared to threaten the big boys with moving your spending power to another network provider, especially when you are close to being out of commitment. Well done Vodafone I have been a critic of you in the past but you do seem to want to keep your customers nowadays.

I got my T610 on that last January and now on a lower rate. It was free back then, at Phones 4 U with the E700 at 60 pounds but no P900. Im going to go for the K700 when it comes out anyway.

Hi Lynx69
K700 sounds like great phone I cant wait to hear what it's like, but be a bully push them a bit, I believe all the network providers are all looking at getting their 3G services off the ground as soon as possible.
It will be business use first then consumers, as they need to start recouping some of the money they overpaid for the licences in the first place (The greedy little piggy’s where just sooo worried someone else would get their noses in the trough and they would miss out! Oh and maybe, their shareholders might have been a bit pissed as well!)
One thing is for sure, it will not be long before all the providers will be running back cap in hand to the biggest betting shop in the land, the city of London asking for more “investment capital” to “allow them to develop “new and exciting services” so the very last thing they want right now is their market share to start slipping, seriously it does not impress the wide boys who manage the investment portfolio’s!

So big it up a bit just see how far you can get them to drop, a tip, the retail units will have enough problems meeting their sales quotas as it is so they will less likely to help unless you happen to get them at the right time in their sales reporting cycle, so I suggest going direct via your networks customer services upgrade line, don’t deal with the first guy you will get ask them if they have a “team that deals with long term or valued accounts” most will and ask to speak to them. Then put the pressure on them, but remember be very polite and prepared to go in for a bit of brinksmanship, ask them “how exactly do I get my PAK code” so I can keep my number when I go to whoever, but remember to be ultra polite but business like.

I was genuinely surprised I came out of Carphone Warehouse.called Voda from the car park and got what I believe to be a fair deal.
Ok I spend good money with them but it did not stop them quoting me £177 for the phone just 2 hours before I went into CPW!

Good Luck and enjoy your phone I hope I will mine!

Yep totaly agree with you, But dont you think it's about time, I still do not understand how they can get away with charging so much for cross network calls or access from a land line 35p a min is daylight robbery in my humble opinion

With regards to discounts in a retail unit, they don't exsist!!! If you enter a network owned retail store and ask them for an upgrade discount, they will not be able to offer you anymore than is on the screen. If they do, then it will not be as much as the network directly can offer.

As the Financial Times wrote two weeks ago, the networks are desperate to keep customers and nearly all networks are positioned to match 3 tariffs. Push your network for the best deal you can get if you spend a fair bit of money, high spending customers increase ARPU (Annual Revenue Per User) which is what the networks are valued on now. Gone are the days of subscriber numbers, if you spend £75-100 per month you are regarded as a 'platinum' customer. Remember that when negotiating your next upgrade.

Thanks this certainly proves my point that the network providers do not want to lose spending customers at any price at present, whatever the current calculations are based upon, I think it puts us consumers in a strong position, I missed the article in the FT so thanks for bringing it to everyone’s attention I hope it helps someone else get a better deal.
Re your point on retail units I have had mates who got discounts at a stores doing Orange phones in the past when they were offering price matching etc, but I have to admit I cannot remember if it was an official Orange store or not, and if my memory serves me correctly it was about a year ago, but as you rightly point out it would seem that isn’t going to happen any longer.
