I have been wanting to upgrade the firmware in my T616 for a long time now and when i decided to do it, i found esato. i searched around esato for a while and found out that you either have to flash the phone yourself or take it to a SE service center. ok well, i suck, so i wanted to take it to a service center. I searched esato for that information - since it wasnt anywhere located on SE's site. well the esato community pretty much unanimously says 'call them' so no big deal i call them up.

the lady asks me my model number, my service provider then puts me on hold. a few minutes later she tells me that to upgrade firmware you can just take it to a service center, except for this model. on this model i have to mail it to them and it will cost 47$ US. my model cant be taken to a service center? 47$? wtf?

i must say im very dissappointed with SE. this doesnt sound correct. has anyone else been able to get the firmware upgraded on their t616 (stupid question)? does anyone have a list of service centers or anything for the Austin/Texas area?

im bumbling along with R1a054 for crying out loud

any help/advice is appreciated - and i know there are lots of questions about how to upgrade firmware and i dont mean to make another post about this, im mainly asking about the SE support that i got. is it true that i cannot take it in to a service center and get it upgraded?

oh beleive me i am. i have read about all the updates and fixes in the new firmwares and i am really looking forward (hopefully) to being able to take advantage of them. How did she misinterpret what i was asking for though? and why would i send my phone in when i could just go buy another one (if that is what they wanted to do)? she also told me that other phones could be taken to a service center, except this model it had to be mailed in - which i think is complete bologna. i didnt mean to rag on SE really i think i was more just frustrated at the customer support rep i talked to.

i hope that i really can just take it in to a service center...finding one though might be a problem.

Preadator> What a ridiculous remark!
Firmware upgrades mostly and mainly aim at correcting bugs present in previous releases.
Which means you were sold an imperfect phone to start with, simply because they did not want to spend the money or the time to come with a bug free system the first time on. We are fully entitled to free firmware upgrades.

Sure looks like the MS philosophy: come out with a non finished product and let the clients do our job: find the bugs.

@ molotov--the prob with the t616 is that its fw is deigned to work on the 850 band (you prolly use cingular or AT&T), and most t61x models are designed to go on the 900 band. So, you need special software.

Talk abt customer service, huh?

I'm on a non-unlimited WAP plan, so I don't know if you solved it. I'm in Texas, and I have a business doing this stuff. If you still need help, then PM me. We can discuss it. I charge $25 to flash, unlock, and unbrand it. Contact me if you want help. This message was posted from a T616
