> No Memory Stick Pro Duo for S700

Have just been reading the whitepaper for the S700 and it states on page 21 that the S700 will use regular Memory Stick Duos so the limit is still 128MB. So the man in the video from CeBit must have been wrong when he said 1GB memory sticks. With the camera being 1.3 Mega Pixels, this will soon fill the Memory Stick as the images will take up more space.
What are you doing Sony Ericsson, why is it still only 128MB - Why?
I don't know about the rest of you guys but i think this really sucks, I just can't see why they can't implement the Pro Duos into their new phones!

I dont see it as a problem. The S700 isnt a smartphone, so it doesnt need that much memory for things the P900 would use the extra memory for, such as apps.
But for pictures 128mb is just fine. I know if i set my Sony Cyber-Shot camera to 1.3mp setting, i can take 202 pictures per 128mb memory stick (fine detail), and 375 pictures in standard mode...
So, 128mb to store at least 200-375 pictures at 1.3mp resolution isnt enough for you ?
Come on - its not that bad !
Also, with the falling prices of 128mb Duo sticks (i know a place that sells them for £43 GBP) its fairly easy to get your hands on more sticks whenever you'd need them !

regarding memory stick prices, I have a couple of 256mb duo pro now for my digital camera and they cost me around 65 pounds each so cost per megabyte compared with the best 128mb duo prices is much better.
I really scratch my head at this issue because regardless of whether S700 is a smartphone or not, and reading through the available technical specs etc, I cannot see why they continue to enforce this limit of 128mb

probably because they make more from the 128 on a money per MB basis. by forcing you to buy multiple 128s they are making more money than if you bought a single 256, 512 or 1GB.

I think there has to be more to it than that, and you would think they would be happy to rid themselves of the stupid and embarrasing 128mb limitation because everytime a product comes out that only accepts duo they further highlight the design limitations and lack of forethought they gave to that format

in reality it's probably the result of some stupid, short-sighted exclusivity agreement signed when ericsson and sony first hopped into bed with each other - before the technology potential was fully realised - and we just have to wait for the agreement term to lapse or be renegotiated.

www.memorystick.org and if they can fullfil the licence agreements they can become a memory stick licencee, hmmm

it probably made sense at the time if, for instance, SE got the licencing for a song and sonycorp looked at it as a guaranteed market.
