Hot news from Taiwan: Arima Communication, famous contract maker of mobile phones and equipment for cellular operators, has made the decision to use 3G mobile solutions based on Ericsson Mobile Platforms (EMP) and Qualcomm platforms.
Today it became known that leaders of Arima Communication had planned to release the first 3G handset in the mid 2005. For now it's not clear under which brand it would come out. Well taking into account that lately Arima has been tightly cooperating with Sony Ericsson and this very company has signed the OEM-contract to make and supply phones the T100 and the Z200 in the 2Q of 2004 we may assume that the first Arima phone would be released under the SE trademark.
However, that's not for sure - now Arima Communication produces up to 40 models for various OEM and ODM clients, it's 700-900 thousand units per month. It is expected that already in the 3Q there will be produced GSM phones supporting EDGE on Arima plants, the total shipments would exceed 12 mln. models this year. In 2005 the company plans to manage the annual volume of 26 mln. after the launch of new plant in the Jiangsu province (China).
