> My p900 won't sync with my pc.help!
Bookmark topic
Hi everyone. I got a new p900 through Orange a month ago. I'm very happy with the phone, but I cannot get it to synchronise with my pc. I use Windows XP Professional. I followed the installation instructions rigorously, pc suite followed by attaching data cable and desktop supplied. Green LED lights up as I attach the phone, as it should.Computer 'picks up'this new hardware, but does not recognise that the phone is connected. Clicking the p900 desktop icon confirms phone is not connected. I am not a computer boffin, (hence my choice username...)so I had someone check out the pc. He checked everything and re-installed the software. The usb port used is directly on the base unit, not through any hub. He then installed the pc sync software for my wife's Nokia 7600, then attached the 7600 to the Nokia usb cable supplied and plugged it into the same port. The Nokia synchronised with the pc no probs.OK, we then go to SE site and download p900 pc suite just to see if there was any difference. Still no luck. We close all other programmes, including Norton anti-virus, but still no luck.PC guy says it must be the cradle/ deskstand or connection on it. Go to Orange the next day and explain story. They give me their shop's p900 cradle/deskstand to try. Go home and still no luck! I have not changed any connection settings on the phone-still on 'pc connect'. All my usb ports are enabled as well. I dunno...can it be the that my brand new p900 isn't working properly? The wife is having a right good time telling me how her Nokia synchs no problem and my flash p900 is not responding...!! I'm in East London. I got the SE service centre addresses on another esato forum, which seems to be my next port of call, unless someone out there has a possible answer as to why there's no er...'chemistry' between my p900 and my computer... thanx, guys.

Nothing constructive here, sorry. Just liked Kinc's advice
Amazing how easy and trouble-free Mac OSX can sync contacts and calendars, or do everything one can do with a P900, WITHOUT anything else to install or bother with! And they claim it's an "officially un-supported" platform.
Makes you wonder if the PC/Windows life is really worth all that trouble and time wasted.

I also have no probbies with the cradle (on Vaio and home built m/c)
If you have your charger powering the deskstand/cradle does your phone charge when docked? - just to prove its docked OK

I had the same problem with mpy p900 on Orange as well. Even though when I click on the P900 icon on the desk top it said it was not connected I tried to download the latest firmware for my phone (the software that is actually on the phone and not the office suite), from the sony ericsson online update page. It turned out that the software was not properly installed when I got my phone. Even though it said not connected,it managed to update the software, thus solving the problem.
p.s.
you got a better response from Orange then I got. When I phoned up about it I was told "we do not support syncing at all. You'll have to go to a Sony Ericsson service centre.

Oh, joy to the world! My p900 syncs now. Wife bought her own pc, also with Windows XP, and I immediately tried syncing before downloading or installing any other software. Sorted. So then, some programme or whatever on my pc must have prohibited the phone being recognised. Strange though, as I mentioned at the outset, her Nokia 7600 was recognised and synced with no probs on the same bloody pc. Maybe I'll meet some software guru one day who will be able to impart his higher level of thinking and then hopefully I'll be able to make sense of it all...whatever.I'm thrilled and feel asif I've found the keys to my p900's chastity belt..!!!

Hi, i had similar problem, was due to having norton internet security/ anti virus. I simply disable the software when syncing p900, think its due to internet/mailbox connectivity.

Hi...
The SE P900 software puts a number of program modules on your PC and if you have a firewall enabled, you need to make sure you have granted them full internet access as they use TCP-IP to communicate with each other (they only talk locally but still need Internet access).
I know you said you disabled the Firewall but make sure the following are not being blocked:
ArchiveManagerServer Module
BroadcastProxy Module
CapMan Module
DXP SyncML Module
ecfmserv Module
EPOC install
mRouterRuntime MFC Application
Phone Connection Monitor application
SCRFS Module
If any are being blocked then you'll experience problems...
I know it might seem obvious but the other thing is to make sure that the keylock on the phone isnt active as the phone will also show as not being connected.
I use the phone and cradle to sync with no probs at all using Windows XP so it is possible
hope that helps...
