the operator's software locks certain options in the fone.

It also might be some fone settings u need to fiddle around with.

Some carriers don't want you to have access to certain options, so they either hide it, or grey it out, so that you can't use it. I remember that when I was still with SprintPCS, I got the Nokia 3585i, and at the time, SprintPCS didn't support SMS from the phone, so they had totally hidden the Text Messaging option from the phone!!!

See, the phones are sent to the carrier after they are made, then the carrier brands them, or hides options, and adjusts the phone for their network, then they place them in the stores.

To be honest with you, I think most of those features are pretty surplus anyway. Delivery reports, OK, it's sometimes nice to know if your message actually delivered or whether it's waiting for the phone to come back on/back into signal but other than that the options aren't that useful.

I hate it when my mate sends me texts from his T610 with the "reply request" option set - just because it nags me with a "Reply requested - reply?" screen when I try to leave after the message doesn't make me any more likely to reply to him, if anything less likely!
