Ok i thought id be clever and replace the startup.mp4 with one of my own so i did, big mistake now i can hear the mp4 but cant see it and the screen goes white and stays there.

Is there anyway to fix this?
will a firmware update get rid of this stray file?

It isnt to do with the sound i know that much as the original startup/shutdown had sound, had a look on the site it all it says is:

If the .mp4 file is not correctly formatted or uses a codec or codec setting that is different from the ones used in the startup/shutdown .mp4s, the phone will hang and you won't be able to use the phone

The file is stored on the local memory i cant imagine thats the be all and end all of the phone as surely a firmware update will wipe the memory especically as my p800 has the original firmware still.

As far as i know, a firmware update is the only way to fix this. Doing so all data will be erased, including you're homemade startup. It's true that a start-up should not have sound, that's in the popcorn.wav But since this is played together with the vid, it's understanable that you do hear sound. You prob. got the size of the vid. wrong, since this is NOT the size of a regular vid.

Anyway good luck with flashing it!

You can just buy a terminator cable and flash the phone I think. I haven't done this myself, but you can get these cables on ebay for 10 pounds or so. Alternatively, you can take it to a service center (and likely pay up to 30 pounds) to have the phone flashed.

Good Luck,

Nick

DIV and terminaotr cable WILL NOT flash the P-serieis phones. you need fighter or UFS to do that.
