> Battery Chargement Procedures

First of all thank you all for the existance of such a quality non-oficial Sony Ericsson site. I am new around here and in the past week I've been reading carefully hundreds of posts about several issues since a new owner of a T68i.
I've noticed that there are lots of opinions concerning battery chargement procedures. So, I've sent an e-mail to SE technical assitance with a few questions. They're answer was the following:
-The first chargement should last for about 8 hours. The next ones should last only until the terminal indicates that the chargement is over.
-To enhance battery life we should charge the battery with the terminal off.
-The battery should last longer if the phone is disconnect for some periods of time (i.e. at night).
-Finally, there is nothing wrong with waiting until the terminal shuts down for himself before starting the chargement.
Thank you all in advance and hoping I've been helpful.
Cheers from Portugal

From which SE (Country) you got this e-mail?

and its interesting that they should contradict what they write in their own manuals about that initial charge!

@ masseur
That is exactly my point.
I always follow SE's manual book english version and never the traslated one. Sometimes they do mistakes etc.
Anyway the only way you will find a responsible answer is from the manufacturer manuals which everything is written and signed!

I've got that reply from portuguese SE official technical assistance.
And precisely, the fact that they contradict themselves is most amazing. I've asked hundreds of times, everywhere, in the shop where I bought the phone, in one of SE support centers and, as you know, SE itself. I've received at least 5 different advices where 2 of them where different even when asked in the same dealer...
You just can't figure it out do you?

It doesnt really matter these days what you do. As long as you do a good first charge, then drain and fully charge a couple of times at the beginning, your battery is gonna be fine. It's not like you need it to last 14 years on one charge anyway.

That's true. But you do get curious of what's the big deal with batteries afterall?! Why can't you get a concise answer? It seems that everything's so obscure and you don't seem do know why... what buggers me the most is the fact that lots of different opinions, altought contradictorious, are well fundamented, like some of the ones i've read here.

Theres no real point having a concise answer
No ones really gonna follow any rules perfectly. It's only a battery anyway. Not the end of teh world if you aren't getting peak performance out of it!

One reason why you get different answers might be the fact that the manufacturers doesn't really want the batteries to last for ever. They just want them to last long enought to satisfy the lot and make them happy enought to buy a new battery, or even, preferably, a new phone, when the battery is drained.
And for anyone curious enought it might take a couple of years or so to verify how durable ones battery is (or was). And at that time it doesn't really matter, does it? It's probably time for a new toy anyway...
