> Firmware updates at Carphone Warehouse free?
Bookmark topic
I've just taken in my P800 to a Carphone Warehouse to ask it they could upgrade my rather ancient firmware - which they said they'd do. For free!
And my phone I bought secondhand, was outside the one year warranty, and hadn't even come from the Carphone warehouse!
I asked again to confirm that the update was free, and the girl on the counter said that yes, it was! She even said she'd put a note on the system saying it was a free update, as if it was some sort of routine maintenance.
I'm confused. Has this CPW employee got her facts wrong, or can people get their phones, irrespective of it's age and background's firmware updated there?

I've taken phones down whilst they are in thier warrenty period and had no problems with them updating it for free. But i got a T68i down which was about a year and a half old, which they tried to charge me £30 for...
ended up not flashing it

This is why I'm a little confused at the moment - as I say my 2nd hand P800 is over a year old and yet they're updating the firmware for free!
I suspect the lady I spoke to could be wrong, and be getting her wrists slapped sometime in the near future! As she told me the update would be free, then the CPW should honour this as I wouldn't have got it done if it cost me more than £20 or so.
I'm not complaining anyway, with a free software update!

I remember when i took my VX220 in for a repair the turbo pipe cracked the bloke assured me it would be repaired under warranty. I went back to pick up my baby a day latter and they had a bill for £114. They said it was a mistake its not covered under warranty. They wouldnt give the keys back untill i payd so i had no choice. So basically be careful.

I had my T68 upgraded to a T68i and had new firmware installed on my P800 from CPW and i never paid anything to have them done
I have never bought any phone from CPW and they have never asked me for any documentation to prove that i have bought the phones from them or asked if i have the warranty for them
