He seems to have feedback for similar items though so it doesn't look like one of those account hijackings.

depends on where it is imported from. warranty is only within the country of purchase. The exception is within the EU where any country will honour the warranty of phones bought in other EU countries.

Gone are the days of Ericsson worldwide warranty
