> Got me a nokia 6230

Wow, after 2 years of Sony Ericsson I got me a nokia.., all thanks to the lousy k700 specs...
I guess I will just post my thoughts about the phone here for now. I will update it as I discover new things, until I write the final review.
This is by no means a review by a nokia lover, since I've been a

fan for quite a while....
I am using T610 (arguably the best phone of 2003) as my reference point.
So....., the good, the bad, and the ugly
The good:
The screen: Contrary to my expectations, the small(er) screen size does not bother me at all. It's very clear, sharp, and colorfull. It doesn't ghost anywhere near as much as the T610's STN, and is very good in sunlight.
The PC suite: (I've downloaded the latest version from the net, which is newer then the one shipped on the CD). It's full featured and easy to use. Supports cable, IR, and Bluetooth (native mode, not serial over BT like

).
The sync software has full support for calendar, tasks (to-do lists), notes, and contacts. I haven't benchmarked it yet, but it appears to work faster then the

sync, though I miss the conflict resolution fucntion.
When transferring files over bluetooth, it's done in the background (unlike the T610), so I can use the phone normally during the transfer.
The loudspeaker is fantastic, especially for those MP3 ringtones. The loudspeaker on 6230 doesn't bear any reseblence to the ones found in the older/cheaper nokias, which sound more like a bathtub then a speaker.
The polyphonics sounded pretty good as well, but not as full as the T610, but then - who needs polyphonics when you can use mp3/acc
It's fast! My biggest problem with the T610 is that it's too damn slow to react. 6230 performs with no noticable lag, even when loading mp3s from MMC (starts playing at once)
The call register: I have always preferred the nokia type call register, especially the time stamps that doesn't dissapear next day. Enough said....
The MMC! In my opinion, an mp3 player has to have at least 128 megs. If not, it's easier to buy a separate mp3 player. Copying songs back and forwards all the time is simply to bothersome. 6230 is shipped with 32, so I will be buying either 128 or 256mb MMC soon.
This is probably the number one reason I won't consider K700. Lack of memory makes the mp3 player function completely useless.
The bad:
The typical nokia T9 dictionary leaves much to desire
I miss having 2 alarms (1 normal + 1 recurrant). The 6230 has only one alarm (which can be made reccurant)
The ugly:
- The interface! Switching from

to nokia is simply painfull. I miss those high color icons. Would have looked great on the TFT....
- The themes, or actually, the lack of them
- It can be a royal pain in the *** to find a good wallpaper to use, since the menu & info bars simply blend with the dark backgrounds...
-----------------
This is by no means complete....

Actually, I am serious
I can write a review, in a week a so, after I've had the chance to put the phone through hell and form an opinion about it.
..unless this has already been done
First impressions, - it's fast
[edit]
I am still keeping my T610, and will upgrade it when (if) a worthy successor is released.

well all reviews are welcome because everybody puts their own slant on how they see things
I do have to ask if you are not dissapointed by the size of the screen?

Well I think the K700 pastes the 6230 in all aspects except expandable memory so there's no way I'd choose the heap of Nokia over a classy device from

I was afraid the screen size would bother me, but it doesn't. Not yet anyway.
The screen size is very fitting to the phone, besides it's not much different from T610, since the active screen size on it is only 128x128, rest is used by status bars....
The screen quality is definely much better then T610
- sharper/brighter colors
- doesn't fade anywhere as much in the sunlight
[edit]
In a couple of days, I'll by a 128 or 256mb MMC, then I can leave my MP3 player at home....

of course the same thing can be said about the screen quality of the T630 (which I have been using for the last few months) compared with the T610
ever since I heard about the 6230 I couldn't understand why they put such a small screen on a phone with so many capabilities
anyway, I look forward to a review as I certainly respect your opinion
