I know this has been discussed before on this forum and the upshot seemed to be;
If you have a chinese language P900 (called P908, or something) then you can't do English text handwriting input.
OK so here's my news;
My (english) P900 was broken and I sent it in for repair by SE. When it came back it had a new board in, which only seemed to allow Chinese text handwriting input. English text v keyboard input worked, as did my Snap 'n type, but not handwriting. I called them and they told me that this is in fact a bi-lingual input system, although geraed towards the Chinese market.
English text handwriting input can be enabled.
They instructed me to do the following;
open a new SMS message.
At the bottom right hand corner of the screen appears an icon which looks like "<<<"
Press this icon
a tool bar opens across the bottom of the screen
On the left end of this tool bar are 2 chinese characters with an arrow going from one to the other. Ine character (the left hand one) is a square with a vertical line through. This is "Zhong" or "middle" and is the symbal for Chinese language. The other one means "English". Click the "English" character and the arrow between them will reverse.
English text handwriting input is now activated.
They told me that this is a new feature and this is an enhanced "Bilingual" phone but, frankly, I don't believe them. I think this was something they told me to get me off their back but might be useful if it could be applied to P908s that some people have been posting about.
A couple of notes about this system, though;
English text handwriting input in this version seems to have several changes to the stroke recognition, which I haven't gone looking for help on yet (eg "\" does not work for period...)
IKnput resets itself to default Chinese on power down, so you need to reactivate english every so often.
Hope this is useful to some.

FWIW, you can also toggle chinese/english inputs by performing an upward stroke anywhere on the screen when in any text input area (SMS/MMS/Jotter etc.).
I find this a little quicker than having to aim for a tiny icon in the corner of the screen.

You're most welcome sfaguy, glad it helped
(it was at least a month or more after buying my phone before I discovered this neat little trick [and purely by accident too!] - prior to that I just thought I was stuck with Chinese input only

)
