hi guys, i'm trying to convert an .avi file to an mp4 file...
basically, i found this flash animation:

http://www.badgerphone.co.uk

and i wanted to show it to people i knew without pcs using my p900...

So, i got a program (swf2avi) that converts the flash to avi.
So far, so good.
BUT, when i use mpegable to go from .avi to .mp4, it doesn't work properly. The colours have a "raster effect", and the screen is shifted diagonally to one side....

Can anyone suggest what im doing wrong, or if there is a better program than mpegable to convert from .avi to .mp4?

Appreciated. Cheers guys!

P.s if anyone wants the "ring ring ring ring bananaphone" music as an mp3 for their p900 ringtone, pm me. Pretty cool, but sad too!

You could try installing FlashPlay to play the original swf file...

I don't know if this'll help, but I've been using QuickTime Pro on my Mac for all my .avi, .mp4 and .3gp conversions, and has been pretty reliable thus far, producing nice smooth movies.

QuickTime is free to download (http://apple.com/quicktime/), but I believe it needs upgrading to 'Pro' to unlock it's conversion abilities, which of course costs money (USD$29.99, I think).

...just an after thought, but if you like I can try converting it for you with my QTPro.

How large is the file, email-able? If not, I can give you an FTP address to send it to.

My Canon G3 records movies in AVI format. i once shot a great little piece of a moving face and as it was a still camera I did so in portrait (vertical) format.
Stupid really, because every movie player/screen simply would show the face on its side.

I realised that in the recently acquired (and long lusted after) P800 I had a screen that was easily turned sideways to show the movie as a vertical format.

Since I use Macs and the phone uses MP4 movies I had a conversion issue to face.

I used Compressor in the first instance - discovering it to have a wide choice of I/O formats amongst other possible tweakings. However there was a significant learning curve.
i then tried QuickTme Pro and found the whole operation was very much simpler and only lacked features that I had no knowledge of anyway.
I had to perform a few tests to make the piece play on the phone (resolution, frames per sec. etc) but nailed it once with each app.

The other key piece to this particular puzzle was a memory card reader which enabled me to drag and drop the resulting file rather than rely on bluetooth.

Why don't you use Smart Movie converter? I think its really good software. Ok, there's other converters, but they give you *.mp4 files and... the built-in video player... sucks.
I use SmartMovie for all my videos, it gives you Smooth high quality videos, compressed in Divx format. The converter is easy to use and you can rotate the video.
Hope that helped

There is a program i use rather frequently. It helps a lot. Try http://www.geovid.com/Flash_To_Video_Encoder/
