I hope this question is neither silly, nor been answered elsewhere in the forum, I searched.
Micosoft Excel has 65,536 rows. This is the same number of colours supported by "modern" mobile phone screens like the T610/630, P900, etc. Is this a coincidence or is there some logic behind the whole thing?

Oh come on people...
Everything is based on the power of 2.
256 colors.. 2*2*2*2*2*2*2*2
4096 colors 2*2*2*2*2*2*2*2*2*2*2*2
And so on and so on...

most likely because some computer geek decided that it would be simple to follow.

All to do with bits and bytes, and binary!
8 bits (which hold a max value of 255, = 11111111)
16 bits holds a max value of 65,535 = 1111111111111111, hence 16 bit colour.
The P900 has a 16 bit pallet, Excel uses a 16 bit addressing system.
