ok im sure you all have heard of the new atrac3 encoding (4mb mp3= ~1.5 mb .ac3) and i was wondering if anyone has heard if the s700 will be compatible with .ac3 files.

also, does anyone know where i can download a good ac3 encoder and plugin/player? one that can convert from mp3 to ac3 and cd audio to ac3?

also possible a plugin for musicmatch jukebox, windows media, or perhaps just an ac3 player?

thanks!

I'm not 100% sure, but I think you may be getting your sound formats mixed up.

AC3 is otherwise known as Dolby Digital and is used as a Surround Sound format on DVDs

ATRAC3 is a Sony format derived from the original Minidisc sound format.

I use AC3 files regularly when making DVD Videos at work and an encoder comes with the DVD authoring software I use.

I saw this which has a SONY ATRAC3 Audio CoDec in it supposedly, but as I'm a Mac user I can't tell if it does what you want.

And Sony do some software called SonicStage which might help, amd you get it here.
