A wee bit shorter today.
What does the future hold for mobile technology? This is such a broad question, but one that arguably has a very simple answer, interconnectivity.
Mobile technology is very much divided at the moment; we have numerous standards for almost everything connected to mobile technology, even something as basic as the type of network used for mobile communications can be one of many possibilities. In my opinion this will soon be coming to an end, interconnectivity is most definitely the name of the game.
People like having mobile phones that can do lots of different things, but they like mobile phones that can do these things easily. Imagine how much easier it would be if all phones used the same type of memory sticks, or if all phones had Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, and more to the point if every other technological device had the exact same standards and they could all connect easily. Obviously different companies have their own products and will try to promote those products, but over the last few years we have also seen companies willing to adopt standards set by others and this is definitely the way forward in my opinion.
Mobile phones can't really be called 'mobile phones' anymore, they do so much more and in the coming years they will do even more again. I don't think that the day of being able to do everything you need to with a 'mobile phone' is too far off, to a certain degree it is already here in a limited form. Although there are devices available that can act as music players, video players, internet browsers, etc they don't do any of these things especially well, but they are improving..
We need standardisation, mobile devices need to be able to connect with each other as easily as possible, they need to be able to do everything they do at the best possible quality and they need to be easy to use. I for one can't wait for the day when all one takes when leaving the house is a 'mobile phone'.

It's amazing how far computing power has come and how small components have gotten. A P900 has more computational power than all the computers in the world fifty years ago.

However, at that time, the 'mobile gadget' is maybe not only a 'mobile phone', but more like a versatile 'mobile assistent'. Only the imagination will be the limitation.
Who knows what will happen? The future will certainly tell us, in due time...

I think the new gen should have fingerprint/eye scanners built in to stop theiving gits. Read that 20 gig phone should be out in Japan next year (Daily Mirror).

The current system of 'blocking' phones is quite a good one - I've got a T610 I got of Ebay to fix up which it turns out is blocked. I can't make/recieve calls on it, so it is essentially useless, although the IMEI can be changed on it (illegal but apparently not hard for the right person to do)
Personally, I can see a time where PDAs become obselete as people will simply be using phones like the P900 or the O2 XDA II. Saves carrying two gadgets around with you, means you just have the one. It's the phone equivalent of Head and Shoulders shampoo - "still take two gadgets to the office? - you only need one with the
P900"
