> P800: Painfully Slow, Crashing, Battery Draining in 6 hours
Bookmark topic
Over the past few weeks my P800 has started to die.
Accessing features like the Calender or Phone book take minutes, if working at all.
The Battery has suddenly gone from lasting around 4-6 Days to around 6 hours
10 Second reset screen appearing at random moments, often when the phone has been left untouched for a while.
The only change in my usage was I recently went to Spain, and the phone started crashing after connecting to the Spanish networks. I tried a few like MoviStar and such.
I thought that the problem had been solved when returning to the UK as the battery life went backup to 4-6 days and the overall speed seemed normal. But a few days back I realised that I'd not recived any SMSs in over 10 days, even though people had sent them too me; at first I thought this was just a network error. So I decided to reboot my phone (first time since it had been working ok again), and I recived a barage of messages, logged back from around 10 days ago. Strange I thought, but at least the messages had come. Then I noticed that the battery level had quickly decreased, and it had only been charged up a few hours earlier. It wasn't long before I realised that the old problem had returned, phone crashing, running slow and battery draining.
The p800 is about 14 months old, and until around 14 days ago had been working perfectly.
It is still on it's original version, I never got around to flashing it.
The only thing I could have though to cause the problem was maybe some software that wasn't working right, so I performed a Master Reset and formatted my MS. So now the phone is back to Factory Default with only my Phone Book entries being installed.
Does anyone have any idea as to what could be causing the problem? Would Flashing the phone help?
Thanks in advance.

@roskelld
I am assuming from your post that the master reset didn't work, in which case I would definitely recommend that you have your phone flashed with the latest firmware.
I'm not too sure how roaming on a foriegn network would have affected your phone in the way you describe. It might be that your P800 was caught in some form of loop, constantly trying to access incoming texts, but somehow unable to do so. This might explain why your phone has slowed and the battery life has diminished, of course this is just a theory and I am probably wrong.
Can you receive texts at the moment, after performing the master reset? Are you using SMan?

@scotsboyuk
Thanks for the reply.
The Master Reset did nothing apart from leaving my phone a little empty feeling.
My theory is similar to yours, I belive that the speed of the phone, when trying to access the Calender and such, seems like the phone is frantically trying to do something in the background; I often get a flashing screen, as if the phone is constantly refreshing.
I have recived a text message today, so apart from the issues, it does seem to be functioning correctly.
I'm now running the phone in flight mode to see if that has any effect on the battery; obviously not a solution, but at least it will give me more of an idea as to what the problem could be.
I'm not running SMan; since the reset I've not installed anything on it apart from my contacts. At the moment, I'm just rebooting the phone to ensure that all extra applications are closed.

No luck with flight mode, the batter drained down just the same.
Having another play about, it seems as though the phone is having difficulty reading files, hense the slow loading or timing out of the apps. I've just shut the phone down, and it didn't get to play the shut down anim intime for the phone to switch off.
I seem to remember that you could format the C: drive (as well as the MS), is that practical? is it the same as a Master Reset?
I feel helpless without my phone working, even though I barely use it... strange huh?!?

Format the c: drive and then perform another master reset. Keep your memory stick out during both of these procedures.
Install SMan and use it to find out what applications are running and how much memory they are using.
You have always got the option of having your P800 flashed, which I advise you to do anyway to update your firmware.

By jove I think you might have done it.
I performed a full format of C:\
Rebooted and only set the clock, leaving everything else default.
I put the phone to one side and have left it all morning. The battery (which had only half charged) has dropped 1%, previously I'd have been looking at about 40-50% by now.
I'm gonna leave it as is, and see how it goes by the end of the day.
I'm also gonna get the firmware updated this weekend, just to make sure that it's all tip-top.
Only thing I can presume is that the Master Reset may leave some .ini files or something of the sort behind which were causing the problem.
*phew*, cheers scotsboyuk, I think you might have saved me muchos-hastle.

I'm glad to hear that the situation has improved. It was absolutely no problem at all old boy, but I can't really take much credit in all of this, I was merely suggesting tried and tested methods, if anything the Esato community at large should receive most of the thanks, although being somewhat egotistical I shall appropriate some of that gratitude for myself.
As far as I can remember the master reset doesn't quite reset everything, I really cannot recall where I read this, but I do seem to recall something along those lines being written on Esato somewhere. By formatting c: drive you are in effect creating a clean slate, which I hoped would solve your problem. I am glad to hear that you are getting your firmware updated, as I said previously it would be a god idea even if your P800 wasn't having problems.
