> How fast are Z500, Z1010, K700 handsets?
Bookmark topic
Hello all
if you have a Sony Z500 (the small-screen MIDP2 Sony) phone or the large-screen Z1010 or K700, please help me out! My company has a game, released on Nokias, that we are porting to Sony handsets. We are trying to find out how fast these handsets can run so we can determine what can go into that handset's version of the game.
I don't have access to Sony handsets so i have made a speed-test version of our game. If you have a Z500, Z1010 or K700 i'd really appreciate it if you could stick this speed test onto your phone and let me know what figures it reports. It really is very simple:
* for Z500 please download the speedtest from here: *dead link removed*
for Z1010 or K700 please get this speedtest for the larger screen: *dead link removed*
* put the JAR onto your phone
* run the game
* pick "Run Test" (it is the default option)
* wait for the game to play itself for about 30 seconds
* let me know the frames per second (fps) figure that gets printed on the screen.
thats all you have to do. from starting to install to getting the figures back should take, like, two minutes or something. I know the K700i can run about 20 frames per second which is really good for a large-screen handset.
You can't play the speedtest version! If you want to have a play on your Z500 please get the one-level demo instead at *dead link removed* or if you have a Z1010 or K700 try this demo instead: *dead link removed*
Again, i'd really appreciate it if someone could put this speed test onto their Z500, Z1010 or K700 handset and let me know the "fps" figure it reports.
Oh if you want to find more information about the game please visit
http://www.infinitelives.tv/MMD/ but it isn't out on Sonys yet, thats what this speed test is to help me do.

* to download direct to your handset: in your phone browser visit http: //www.infinitelives.tv/MMD/demo.wml
* to download to your pc/desktop machine (for bluetoothing or whatever):

The T610 is a great phone but not very good at java games so its difficult to say if the z1010 is that much faster. Three times not much might still be not much!

I think the z1010 will be pretty fast but i was hoping for that speed test to be run. it takes only 30 seconds! or jus download the demo - its free!

*edit: whoops! i forgot to thank you for trying the demo out. i appreciate you spending the time to test the game!
7? 7 fps? lord ha'mercy, i can't believe the z1010 can run the game at only 7fps. were you running anything else at the same time? its supposed to be a really fast phone. The JBenchmark figures look really good for it. Is your phone an old one, one of the first to come out? Maybe your firmware is making the game run really slow.
I could make a midp1 build, it has midp2 which should be faster than the normal engine, not slower. i didn't really want to do that, the midp2 engine is better, but i could try the other engine. Do you have other games and if so do they run ok?
7fps! laugh dear oh dear. Have you tried running jbenchmark on your phone? JBenchmark is nothing to do with me, its an "industry-standard" java speed checked for phones. you can download it free from jbenchmark.com. try running that on your phone - its suppoed to report a rating of about 2300. if it does then maybe there was something waaaay wrong with my build.

cool - thanks for your feedback
In case you missed it, you can also have a real play with the one-level demo (different to the speed test) by downloading
http://www.infinitelives.tv/MMD/dist/mmd1-sony220-demo.zip and installing the JAR in that, or play the two-level browser-based demo on the web site (http://www.infinitelives.tv/MMD/demo.html)
