In anyone is aware of the technical details of SE thmes, please share them. In particular...
1. How are the individual files packaged into a single .thm file
2. Is there a way to extract the data without using a theme creator program

They are .TAR archives with the extension changed to .thm

Just find a program that can un-archive tar files and you'll be able to open the theme file and see all the individual elements inside. Usually a bunch of .jpg .gif .png files and an .xml file. Very simple
