Hi,

I have seen a P900 with a firmware hack that made it support Memory Stick PRO DUO (although the hack was not release quality). So I know it can be done with a firmware upgrade. It is not faster than the normal support (since the hardware only supports the Serial interface), but even DUO PRO sticks support the serial mode - it is just a protocol change to allow longer block addresses on the flash chip.

So I have created a Public Mind request to make SonyEricsson give us this feature in an official upgrade.

This topic is very hot with P900 users,so coming here and making allegations like "I saw a firmware hack that supports PRO DUO" is just a joke,right?
What firmware hack?
GIVE DETAILS PLEASE!!!!!!

And... name just one case in SE history when such things like siggning petitions had any kind of success.
P800 users signed many such pittiful petitions and the result was 0 (zero).
I think it is a waste of time here...first because you don't provide any details about the "firmware hack" and second because these petitions are just without any efect.At least not for P900...maybe for its follower...

Well I can't give many details about the firmware hack, I saw it while I was working for Symbian.

I don't know the details of how they did it, or even if it was Symbian or SE people who had done it - it was obviously done by people who have access to the source code to the Memory Stick driver. I haven't seen the driver for the memory stick myself, and if I had I couldn't comment on it.

Anyway signing the petition can't hurt - at least they'll know what people want. Public Mind are a bit more pro-active in getting things done than most petition websites, they actually have people who actively go and pursue the requests with the vendors when the interest becomes great enough.

It is possible, sony has done this for many products including pda,laptops,tv,vaio(desktops) etc...... Sony provided a firmware upgrade to support the new PRO. But for some strange reason they never gave a firmware update for the PX00.

Dont know why they never did it? but it is possbile. So if someone else did it, they would be smarter to sell it to us, then to ask sony to release it, sony already knows its possible. But they just dont want to do it.

I think howerver many times someone comes onto this forum and cries 'MS DUO PRO' they should always get the same responses.

When you HAVE PROOF then please by all means tell us otherwise STOP WASTING good message space, and no im not flaming anyone personally, im flaming everyone impersonally.

It stands to reason if it's a hardware thing then just forget it, if its a simple (as a lot of people make it out to be) software patch, then why oh why after so long has no one cashed in on this ??? or from another point of view WTF are SE upto, are they just upgrading all the other money making PC's, handhelds etc just to P*ss off us p900 owners, i think not...

PS. I have read the articles and see where the HOPE can jump in, everyone has a longing for this sort of things to be true and no-one can say beyond a shadow of a doubt that it IS IMPOSSIBLE, except maybe a the designer of the slot, but until SE announces the update in software form or just release an updated phone then it's just like all the rest of the HOPE software....VAPOURWARE.

IT IS NOT A HARDWARE THING!!!!!!!!!!! I own a CLie NX70. I bought it long b4 the mem stick pros were even mentioned and lo and behold, sony upgrades the firmware to be compatible. Any ms slot will be able to use ms pro as long as the software is there!
