This may sound stupid but im really confused. Both my father and i have p800s, we both got them at the same time (from the same lot) and both had the same firmware version (Phone: R2D, Organizer: R2A16, CDA: R3A12).
well, i was telling my father about how it sucks that you cant upgrade the p800's firmware at home, having to take it to a SE centre, and he told me that he had upgraded his firmware with his computer and the USB station. I obviusly thought he was confused, but i checked, and now his versions are (Phone: R2F, Organizer: R2B03, CDA: R4A02).
He hasnt taken it to any Service Centre, he has had it all the time, AND he remembers having followed the steps to upgrade it, but doesnt remember exactly where in the SE website he found the software/wizard.
he only has got the usb station (dss-20) and a bluetooth adaptor, i think he instaled the sync software for the P900 (it works for p800 too, right??).
well, i hope someone can help me solve this "mistery". im getting my p800 replaced for a new one, so im gonna try all this stuff that normally i would be scared of doing to it
thank you.

im serious, see im confused cause i've been searching on google and in some pages they say that you can upgrade ur firmware with a flash cable, then there's a bunch of software to flash/unlock SE phones, and i read somewhere that in next versions of the firmware, maybe they will include the option to upgrade the firmware at home. so i guess its a software "limitation".
all i know is that no one touched my father's phone as far as we can tell, and now our firmwares are different.
he tells me that he found the option in SE website, and it was like a backup (his phone turned off, and then on in backup mode)...
ahh, dunno...

Now this is very very funny....another thread to revive an impossible dream

The P800 CANNOT be upgraded to a P900. If it happenes, then it is just pure luck, and no prove the phone will be 100% stable, coz obviously SE made it for their 'made from scratch' P900 PS: What a lie!!!

Mate, the firmware not upgradeable by any chance, even for the P800's own firmware, coz SE did not introduce this goodie for the P800 owners. This is one of the reason I sold my P800 and am awaiting a P900 after 3 days. I cant wait!!!

Cheers!

ignoring the last few replies....

Yeah I can see how you would be confused - maybe your error is something to do with you accidentally checking the same phone twice when you first looked at the firmware!

Yes, you can upgrade the firmware of a p800 at home with the right cable, it is possible, but not to the likes of us. It's not the cabling thats the problem, and the p800 isn't in any way locked to receiving new firmware, it's just that the software itself is restricted to service centres and I think it even authenticates itself against a SE every time you do it.

So whilst its a lovely idea, I'm afraid it's not happened
