Some apps seem to do this ("Your phone has been restarted to improve performance" or something like that) most commonly when installing apps.
I haven't worked out which apps were doing it to my phone, but I suspect it was some combination of:
- Unreal Player (the most unstable commercial app around!)
- Cascata Games (Hearts, Backgammon, Checkers, etc etc)
- Some Java games
I've just reformated my phone and memory stick, because just reformatting my phone didn't solve it.

I had a similar problem last week. My phone was running very slow, crashing every few hours, and draining the battery very quickly.
The fix was to Format the C: Drive, forcing the phone back to Factory Default. I tried Master Reset, but that doesn't clear all the data, and the problems stayed.
If you format the C: make sure you have all your data, contacts etc. backed up. This process will put your phone back to the state when you first bought it, but if the problem is software related, then there is a fairly good chance of it getting fixed.

glad you found out too..
i had the exact same problem, because of which i almost had a very bad fight with a mobile repair shop!!!
i bought a Memstick and before loading it up with software, i thought i update the firmware first...so i gave it to a shop to do it for me...
turned out the guy didn't even know what a firmware was and after 3 days i got it back without being touched. anywayz, after being hopeless on firmware update, i installed whatever i could on the new memstick and after that i saw the battery drying after a few hours.
i thought it was the battery problem and it came to my mind that the shop had replaced my battery with an older battery or something!!
i almost went to the shop to start a fight!! but well, i formatted my drive and found that it was software related.
i bet the problem lies on the hacked version (why is it called hacked? should be cracked!) of camcorder. i tried it two more times, meaning i installed camcorder twice and i had the same problem...it could be a compatibility problem with sman or tracker or something else...but whatever it is, now that i don't install camcorder, i don't have that problem and am loving my p800 with 128mb memstick much more!

Then i guess it is advisable to take your fone again to the service center ask them to check the problem, then u can ask for the repair cost and all and see if it is worth it !!!
