am i correct in assuming ring data means fax? i just got a voice call but it uses the ring data tone.

how is it even possible? can someone shed some light here.

Maybe the person who called you is actually a very sophisticated robot, in which case their voice would be digital and would be recognised as a data call by your phone.

If you aren't going to post useful advice and try and help the chap then I suggest you post nothing at all.

It could be that your device has picked up an interstellar transmission from an alien civilisation, which has registered as a data call.

Seriously though, it sounds as if you have received a fax. As far as I know this is possible if your network allows it, not that you would be able to receive the fax on your device, but you would be able to store it and redirect it towards a fax machine of your choosing. I'm reasonably sure that this is how it works in the UK, so I would imagine that it could be similar in the US.

thank you for your input. actually, what really happened was that i moved some of the ringtones from internal to external. and since the ring voice was assigned to a personal ringtone which was moved, it picks up the default ringtone which happens to be the same as ring data.

so mystery is solved!!

as for the other two feedbacks, thanks for keeping it light. you guys are way funny. no offense taken...most people in here are pretty cool.
