U know when you turn the camera on, what is the number in the top left corner? It seems to change for no reason...

Do you mean like 2X and 4X, i think it tells you what the maximum zoom you can use on that size pic is (you can only zoom in a certain amount for each size), or it maybe how much you're zoomed in?

I see no number in the top left! Perhaps u mean top right.
If u mean the one next to the picture size then that is how many pics u have left. It will change according to how much memory is left

How comes when I have my picture size set to the smallest (160*120) size it shows I have only 160 photos left to take..
but when Im on the highest setting - it says I have 640 photos left...? aurley its meant to be the other way round???

No you misunderstand...
The small white number in a square
IS the picture size:
small 160x120 = 160
med 320x240 = 320
large 640x480 = 640
extended = 1280
Next to this will appear a number in larger, black text.
This is the number of pics left. It doesn't show it when it's a rediculous number in the 1000s like the Px00 does though. Try choosing the largest setting (extended) & it may appear.

You gan zoom in 2x and 4x when the image is in "small" mode. If you use "extended" then you can not zoom!

theres different modes that you can only zoom in on...i cant remember specifics right now, but for example if you were in the smallest resolution type you can zoom 4x, but if your in say 2nd highest resolution then you can zoom only 2x
