> Changing imei ID for upgrading phone
Bookmark topic
Hi
I bought my P900 outright (thus unlocked), but branded Fido, but because FIDO Canada can't be arsed to authorise the latest firmware, I need to change my imei temporaily in order to upgrade. After the firmware upgrade I'll reset the phones imei. Unbranding the P900 isn't enough anymore, because the SE upgrader now validates the imei number.
Since I bought the P900 at full price, I should damned well be able to upgrade the P900 to whatever firmware I like... without FIDO's interference... IF I bought, say, an Orange branded P900, unlocked, I could use it on the FIDO network with the latest Firmware, and FIDO wouldn't care.
How do I go about changing the phones imei? Is there software to do this?
Thanks in advance.

I'm afraid it's illegal what you're asking, since this practice is used by thieves aswell to unblock blocked stolen phones.
But it is possible I think, never tried it myself, would be useful to make software work which works only with a specific IMEI number...

I never had any problems upgrading my p800's firmware with fido. I think the tech you are dealing with is just an asshole. It may very well be that they are waiting to be certified by "SE" (and he doesnt want to tell you that) as I had to wait a few weeks b4 I could take my phone in for a free firmware upgrade. Also the p900's I have seen with Fido and even my P800 are "Not" Fido branded, they were just sim locked to work on fido only (but that's an easy fix) but absolutely no Fido Screens and whatnot, if yours is "branded" then you must have one from a different batch, did you order yours or buy it at the store?

@prodjsxb
I bought the phone at a fido store, and unlocked at the time. Though wouldn't FIDO give their iemo numbers to SE?
Maybe I could just try unbranding it using the software and hope. Yep, the phone doesn't have any branded aspects - such as the opening and closing screens etc.
EDIT:
The sonyericsson update software checks your CDA and identifies it as FIDO.

@stewart01
The sonyericsson update software checks your IMEI (and not CDA) and identifies it as FIDO. You can confirm this by changing the CDA (unbranding does this actually) and it will still fail.
When SE distributed the phone to FIDO, they must have IMEI linked to FIDO in their database.
Ok guys... correct me if I'm wrong
