Is it possible to assign different functions to moving the Jog Dial backward and forwards on a P800?

With the flip closed, pushing the jog dial backwards takes you to the previous screen/menu. Pushing it forwards brings up the keylock/silent menu. All very useful.

But with the flip open, all these pushes do is switch to the next application in the top menubar. Something you can easily do by clicking on the icon anyway. A waste of two buttons in my opinion.

I would like to use the jog back / forward buttons to maybe tab between input boxes, return to previos menus/screens, or even move left or right in games.

Anyone know of an application that allows this?

A program called Keymapper by Epocware which costs about 11USD or £5 sterling allows you to change the functions of all of the buttons and the jog-dial.

Have a look at www.epocware.com to see if it will do what you want.

Best piece of software I got for my P900. You can assign just about anything.

Thanks for that!

It's a brilliant bit of software, just what I needed.
Not only can I now use the jog dial back and forwards, but it makes the perfect screen lock for using the phone without the flip.

Just one quick press of the power button and my phone is locked!

Personally, i haven't tried keymapper, but Tracker also does the trick. With the newest version (4.x) you can even select single press, and hold to a button. This way you can give 2 actions to one button (and in case of the jogdail 4 actions)
i use it to anwer my phone, bring up lock screen, close all apps and compact memory.

Just wanted to share knowledge, if keymapper does the trick for you, you won't hear me complaining;)

@londonstone

Flip off lock you need to tap battery and then tap lock screen although the function does not appear when you have the charger plugged in to the phone.

@ Happen

That lock option is not available unless you have the screen saver turned on, and the 'Screen saver device lock' button ticked.

I really don't like the phone's built in lock, as you have to enter a pin before you can unlock it. Which is annoying when you are in a rush.

With keymapper, and presumably Tracker, you can lock the phone with one button press, or hold. So that you don't launch any applications or make calls while it's in your pocket. Then you deactivate the lock with just a couple of quick moves on the jog dial.

I also found another freeware application called SClock, which does exactly the same thing, but keymapper is much more configurable.

Thanks for the great tip though. Before I had these applications I was going into the virtual flip mode to put on the key lock, very long winded (much like my reply here).

what phone do you have?!

On a p900 device lock is a standard feature regardless of screen saver and power save mode. And to unlock it you dont enter a code you push jog dial towards and jog dial in its unlocked. Also you can set a time for auto lock i have mine for 1 minute it automatically locks the phone in a minute.

i think your confused.

Ahh I have a P800
Obviously that's a new feature on P900s.

Oh and I'm not confused, I'm just British.
