I usually use an Orange pay as you go sim. I bought an o2 sim because it said I can use it abroad by dialling something like *111*hash. When I tried this in Dubai I got "USSD not permitted" I want to know if this is a problem with o2, the SIM, or the t610?

The correct way is as the first poster said.

*111*# and then the phone does a call back and you follow instructions given by the pre-recorded messge, they ask you to enter the phone number you wish to dial, or you can access voicemail etc.

One question, did you ask o2 to switch on roaming before you left the country? also does o2 have roaming agreements with the country you are in? check out www.o2.co.uk for details.

Thank you all. o44wen, yes I did dial correctly but instead of getting a ring back I got this USSD message. Does anyone know what USSD means? Yes o2 has a roaming agreement widh Dubai.Im sure the4ir literature said that I do not need to contact them about roaming. And even if I do have to, has anyone ever got through to o2 customer service?

i think you do need to contact o2 to switch on roaming. i had to anyway.

i live in northern ireland and am passing over to Southern Ireland a few times and my mobile never worked there. I had to ring o2 and get them to activate roaming. Now my phone works.

I have found that it is much quicker to get through to o2CC if you use your mobile phone to ring them. whenever i ever used the landline it always seemed to take much longer.

Unstructured SS Mobile Originated Data (USSD)

this is from the o2 website...

Before You Go

Follow our step-by-step list to make sure you have everything you need so you can make and receive calls on your O2 mobile while you're abroad:
1......
2......
3......
4. Make sure your international calling bar has been lifted by calling your service provider. Their number will be on your bill.

Just spoken to o2 customer services.I dont think it makes sense what I'v been told. Seems you don't dial *111*hash and then wait for a call back(like all the literature tells you to do!) I have just been told that I should dial*111* THEN THE NUMBER I WANT TO CALL then hash!
