Anyone else find this incredibly annoying? Waiting months and months for Vodafone or O2 or whoever to approve a firmware update and send it to SonyEricsson to put on their update service? Does anyone know why this takes so long and if there's a working way around it that we can do ourselves (as in, not having to drive for a couple of hours to take it to a SE service center)?
I just got my P900 a couple of weeks ago and I absolutely adore it, but the firmware version is:
Phone R3C006
Bluetooth R5D
Organiser R4B03
CDA162004/8 R5A01
I understand there's been a couple new revisions since then but operators just take sooooo long to approve them!! WHY WHY WHY?!?!

they have no intention to do firmware upgrades they feel the current software has no problems so see no need they dont care about the increased functionality bought around by the SE updates so quit dreaming.

Incredibly annoying. I've asked O2's Business Customer Service team serveral times about this over the past week - and they've not had the decency to reply to me. If they don't give me an answer, I'm going to return the phone, much as I love it.

Well I've just talked to Vodafone. First they insisted that R4B03 is the latest firmware, then I mentioned R5B02 and the guy had to talk to his team leader. Apparently using the SE Update Service voids the warranty!!! WTF?!?!
Anyway, they referred me to my closest VF store to find out more info about upgrading the firmware and guess what? Nobody answered. Ugh.
Anyway, decided to use a remote unlocking service and buy a datacable from ebay.
Wish me luck!

unlocking does crap all. The IMEI number identifies it as a operator branded handset on the SE Update service
You can get generic firmware put on from a service point car phone warehouse.
