I've looked in the manual and tried on the phone but I just can't seem to find that character

rufocused is right. Some fonts (e.g. the one used in the K700, and also Trebuchet if I remember correctly) use that kind of ampersand.

Well unless I've misunderstood it's quite easy to insert a &.
When writing a text

It is still the AND sign. Different fonts will show it differently. Just accept that and move on. This message was posted from a T310

Well it only looks odd if u bother to sit & stare at it! I had never noticed it was any different, it's still an '&'!
Also it doesn't really matter cos it's not as though it will show like that on phones u send it to so no-one will be confused and now u know that's it neither will you
