Hi Everybody,

I just thought i would share with everyone my first experience with buying a Sony-Ericsson phone.

I have always had Nokia phones before and never experienced any problems at all. I decided to get the T65 this time because of the GPRS and inbuilt modem, and Nokia had no affordable phone in Australia with these features.

Here are some of the problems I had with the phone:

1. A horrible, annoying buzzing noise when the light is on.
2. Phone freezing randomly, with no way to reset. Had to wait between 5 to 15 mins everytime for phone to reset itself.
3. Locking up when using WAP. Would get halfway through loading a page and then stop. Have to disconnect/reconnect to fix
4. Antenna signal very weak. Could not get a signal at my house. If I put my SIM card in my daughters Nokia 3310 I get almost full signal.
5. SIM card holder impossible to slide out without a screwdriver or pliers. When you finally did get it out it came ALL the way out and flew across the room.
6.Could not read large mails.

The software version on the phone is R3A010.

The above problems are not the worst part though. I thought no problem - I just got a lemon - I will take it to the service centre, as the warranty said it is guaranteed to be fixed within 3 hrs and if the phone is less than 30 days old they would replace it with a new one.

They took it apart and said that the phone was irrepairable and that it would be replaced under the "Early Life Failure" warranty. But guess what? Service centres don't keep phones in stock, and Sony-Ericsson won't send out a new one until they see the irrepairable one. So now I have to wait for up to 2 weeks for Sony-Ericcson to check my phone, and then send out a new one . So much for an "authorised" service centre hey? In the meantime I have nothing.

The crazy part is that Sony-Ericssons policy is to replace any phones that fail within 30 days with new ones - the customer doesn't have a choice. If the phone was more than 30 days old at least I would be guaranteed a working phone within 3 hours, which is all I want anyway. Work that out? I rang the Sony-Ericsson support Centre about this but all I got was a programmed robot who said "I'm sorry sir, but that is our policy" (he was actually human - but he may as well have been a robot).

So, I have learnt my lesson the hard way, and will stick to Nokia from now on, where I know that I will get handset quality and a customer service centre that at least pretend to care.

If I have just been unlucky, please correct me, and also I would like to hear from anyone who has had a similar experience.

Don't know sorry - whatever Optus in Australia uses. But surely both phones use the same?

both 3310 and T65 are dualband... and if you don't have some kind of net monitor in the phone you can't see if you are on 900 or 1800... 900 is the main frequency, 1800 is used in areas that needs high capacity.

somes network are 100% GSM 900 or 100% DCS1800,
Here in France, the 2 oldest GSM compagny are in GSM 900 but put 1800 BTS since 2 yeays in cities.

The last compagny use 1800, but put GSM 900 BTS in countryside since 1 year.

By the way, can i ask to my Ercisson center to activate netmonitoring on my phone ?

ubugger - I am in Adelaide. I am surprised that you had the same probs as me in Sydney. I thought you guys were normally looked after, unlike us from a country town - lol.

So maybe I didnt just get a lemon after all. I will be intrested to see if anyone else has had the same probs here in Aus. Maybe they just send the crap ones out here.

Did you get a brand new phone, and if so, what is the software version on it?

Az,

I am sorry that your phone still does not work - you have me worried now. If I still have problems with my replacement phone I am going to return it and get a Panasonic GD75. I have heard they are quite good.

well, my phone is back to ericsson, AGAIN,
customer service is aparantly gonna ring me, i'm gonna tell them that i work in retail (i do) which DOES sell ericsson phones, and that i am VERY VERY dubious about recommending an ericsson phone EVER again based upon my experience, basically, i wanna convince the ericsson people that they should swap my t65 for a t68, because i've had 7 faulty phones, and that means 14 trips (20 mins each way) to the service place which is DAMNED ridiculas, i think the t65 has the potential to be an awesome phone, BUT, only if it actually works properly.......
