Agile Messenger and indeed it works satisfactorily for me too.
yes, you will need to keep your connection alive if you want to receive and send messages

ICQ doesn't work well with Agile. It connects and I can see my contact-list, I can also write and read messages but I still result in invisible mode, nobody can see I'm online...

Agile works very fine for me too but what I´ve noticed is that I can not send msg from Agile to some having myBuddies (ICQ) then myBuddies is crashing.
