I took my phone out of my pocket and found a huge gash on the screen, and its affecting the touch screen operation. I have Orange Care but I am wary of claiming in case they just say it was negligence on my part! What should I do? Anyone claimed for a similar thing with orange care?

I smashed my P900 into a post on the bus once (due to the bus driver breaking hard). I got home and noticed a big yellow line across the screen and though the phone would turn on the screen wouldn't work. I rang Orange (as I had Orange Care), my claim was accepted and the following morning a replacement handset arrived.
Remember as far as I know you are covered for accidental damange.

Yeah, you are covered for accidental damage. I think somewhere in the small print it mentioned paying a £15 admin fee if you claim - but do your best to talk them out of that - after all you're a loyal customer, who's already paying a fiver a month for this service.
Orange are usually quite good at neding over backwards if you're nice.
I've claimed several new phones (inc my P800) on Orange care in the past due to various things, my P800 died completely!
