I have recently purchased a SE K700i. This is my first departure from a Nokia handset and I was hoping that some of you 'more experienced' SE users may be able to help me with a few things.

1. I have bought a (copy) DCU-11 data cable and the data transfer is VERY slow. A 1Mb mp3 file is taking around 20-30 minutes to transfer. I am not happy with this data cable and am planning to replace it with a genuine Sony Ericsson cable. Should this resolve this speed problem?
2. I am used to using Nokia's data suite, particularly the sms manager and phone book manager. From what I can see SE's software offers little or no functionality to manage either contacts or messages. Is this the case and if so are there any alternatives that will work with the data cable?
3. The manual suggests that I can create a group and then send an SMS to all members in the group. When I create a group it does not seem to appear in my phonebook and therefore I can not select to send an SMS to the group. The group shows up under Contacts, Options, Groups but not in Phonebook Look Up. What am I doing wrong?
4. I found to my cost that when I copied my contacts from my Sim card, each number or email was entered separately. I tried to get around this by creating a new Contacts folder in Outlook and sync 'ing my K700i with Outlook 2003. This seems to have improved matters, except for email addresses which have been separated from the main contact and added as secondary contact. If I had a contacts manager I could simply copy the email address to the main contact. As it is I can not find a way to do this other than manually entering the email address into the phone?

I know I have asked quite a few points, but any help on any of my points would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Roger

Itīs slow because of speed of download via cable, use or irda... Try Floatīs Mobile Agent for managing contacts and sending sms. Groups are not in Phonebook but separately (itīs the same for all /// and phones)

Thanks Atlis. Is the software you mention compatible with the USB data cable DCU-11? Also if anyone has any suggestions on my other points I would be grateful!

Thanks again

There is no way the slow download should be caused by the cable. The speed of USB is certainly greater than Bluetooth (and therefore well ahead of infrared).

If this is the reason, it means the USB chip in the phone is really bad.

I have just worked out the sending to Groups problem, so that's one question I no longer need answering. I would appreciate any help or comments anyone can offer on the other points still though...

Thanks

It is unlikely that a DCU-11 will be any faster. I don't know about K700 but for most other recent SE phones(no such problem with E/// T39 etc.), the cable works only at 9600 bps so it's slow. You can try to change the speed and see if that works better(or at all). The aftermarket cable uses the same chip as the DCU-11. IR or BT is your alternative.

Float's Mobile Agent works with cable/IR/BT and serves your need.

Thanks Estor. Do you know what speed the Bluetooth data transfer would be?
I have been using the FMA program as suggested, although not everything functions properly with the K700. I am impressed with the SMS and Contacts functionality of it though.
Thanks again

BT is rated at over 700Kbps

Thanks again Estor. So I basically have wasted my money on the data cable and would have been much better buying a bluetooth 'dongle' to transfer files between my phone and PC?
Is this correct, as if so I will try to cancel my order for a SE DCU-11 cable.
Thanks a lot

Max speed for data via bt to phone in fma is 115.2 kbs. So go for dongle! As I remember, newer releases of fma will fully support K700. Best combination is fma and outlook. This message was posted from a Z600
