How do i got about setting my phone up as SE intended, instead of having all this vodafone guff on my beloved phone? Is it possible? Why do operators mess around with them anyway?

they do it to get you to use there services more. like a contract isnt enough! well, its your property now so you can do what you like with it. call for your local service centre on 08705237237 This message was posted from a P900

Doesn't upgrading the firmware and doing a master reset get rid of any operator logos?

Make sure you do a backup of everything before trying though!

I guess they put them on there in the hope you will stay on thier networks, but they are very annoying.

I guess if you were brave you could have a good nose around the ROM sections of the phone and try and locate the file that held the operator stuff, like soneone did to work out the startup and shutdown sounds and vids.

if I had a penny for everytime someone asked here how to unbrand their phone I would be sitting on a beach in the carribean posting here

unless you get lucky a normal service centre won't debrand your phone, it has happened occasionally but its very rare.

in general you need to find someone who knows what they are doing and can flash it with original firmware

unfortunately the way the online update works you still will be limited to when vodafone provide the update as they base it on imei now and now cda

that will be someone from an se service centre then! you may have to pay, as i have done, as it is not broken/covered under warrenty.
but its your property so you can put whatever firmware you want on it

@batesie, good luck finding a service centre with someone who cares and is interested enough to know how to make the upgrade not choose the default vodafone firmware. I have been to most in south east england and none have a clue though I haven't tried the one in north london which quite a few people rave about
