Hi, i am thinking of buying a new mobile phone .. getting sick of my dated Nokia 3410 at the moment. i was thinking of a Sony Ericsson T610. Now i have read litrally thousands of forum posts and review of this phone but none seem no answer the burning questions i have to ask.. so i am hoping posting here will Help.. ok here goes.

1.) Memory issues.. i have heard the T610 has only something like 2mb memory.. i love playing with my phone (games,ringtones etc etc etc) i was wondering if the is a major drawback or what

2.) I have heard alot of something called Firmware .. i was wondering if you could shed some light on what this is etc as i have never heard of it

3.) Speaker loudness as it were.. some people say they cant hear it at all... i usually put this down to the user or just a single duffed handset but i would like to know more...

4.) As i have mentioned before i like playing with and customizing my mobile i was wondering if you can Download Wallpapers.. Screensavers..Games , change the facia etc as of date i havnt seen any Facia's for sale but i can always be wrong i suppose

5.) Message alerts.. I have heard that there is none but it is possible and that it isnt.. all sorts of stuff.. just wanna get put straight

Thats all i can think of at the minute.. sorry for rambling on a bit but these are the things i would like to know before rushing out and buying any handset.. i am sure most of you are the same..

i just purchased a t610 my self and as for the memory it is an issue if you want to store many themes midi tones and pics but other then that it is the best phone ive owned to date any problem you have with memory can be solved with one word BLUETOOTH that way you can back up all your goodies to your pc and only carry the ones in use with the ring volume ive only experienced this problem with some tones from midi sites and not with any poly tones or message tones and with the message tones you have more of a choice then with most previous SE models but still not costum in the end though i would recommend it its a great phone for the price that it is at today

Whilst I wasn't an avid games player on my T610 I never found memory to be much of a problem except when I downloaded one too many themes. I wouldn't worry too much about the memory situation, but it is still worth noting that 2 MB isn't a huge amount.

Firmware is the term used to describe the software which actually runs the phone e.g. the 'operating system' Manufacturers sometimes release firmware updates to allow people to add some new features to their phone or to fix bugs that have been identified. Upgrading a T610’s firmware requires a trip to a SE service centre, there are quite a few of them and I shouldn’t imagine you would have too much trouble in getting to one.

I found that I had to position my T610 quite close to my ear to get the best sound quality, but I never had any major problems regarding this issue.

You can indeed download games, wallpapers, ringtones and themes to a T610, but unfortunately it isn't possible to change the fascia. It is possible to buy a T630 case and use it to replace the standard T610 case that comes with the T610, although this would involve dismantling the T610 and them putting it back together again.

I am assuming that you mean the tone that sounds whenever a text or picture message arrives, if this is indeed the case then the T610 comes with a selection loaded onto the phone. As far as I am aware (someone please correct me if I am wrong) it isn't possible to add new tones to the T610.

The T610 is a very good phone, but have you considered the T630 or the K700? If your budget allows for the K700 I would certainly advise you to get it over the T610, if not then the T630 is also worth considering. If you have your heart set on the T610 then you are making a good choice, it's an excellent phone and I'm sure it will serve you well.

Well said scotboy.but i have to say something regarding point 4,i found last month in a local mobile shop they were selling what you call facial or cover of 610.i dont really know it was local or else.since im not too interested in that,i didnt go for it. This message was posted from a T610

Yeap Shyam, I´ve seen three different facia for T610 here in Slovakia produced by Koracell: Blue - Black, Black and Grey...

You can find so many faceplates on E-bay. Also, you can update your FirmWare yourself. This message was posted from a T616

You can update your firmware yourself but its very hard if you dont know what you are doing. A better idea would be to post it to your local service centre, it shouldnt take them long to do.

There's loads of fascias on ebay, but most of them are fully plastic. It is possible to get official SE fascias that have the metal parts, but they only seem to come in silver, red, or blue. I've ordered a blue SE fascia off ebay for £12, and I saw one of the red ones in Link the other day. I think it was a vodafone PAYG.

It is wise to buy a oem facing if you are going to use the IR of your phone because most non oem facings have a solid top painting and oems are tinted to let the IR come through.
